Top Boxing Betting Picks of Week – October 1st Ed.

Written by on October 1, 2018

I know the once beloved sport of boxing has clearly taken a backseat in today’s times, but if you’re a boxing betting enthusiast that is looking for value over the course of the coming week, then consider your ticket punched, pardon the pun. Thanks to the pair of expert boxing picks that you’re about to get on two championship matchups this week, you’re going to have a great chance to strike pay dirt not once, but twice.

In one matchup, Artur Beterbiev and Callum Johnson, will go 12 rounds for Beterbiev’s IBF light heavyweight title while in the other bout, Danny Roman and Gavin McDonnell will also square off in a 12 round affair for Roman’s WBA junior featherweight title. Now, let’s find out what’s going to go down in both fights.

Top Boxing Betting Picks of the Week – October 1st Edition

Callum Johnson (17-0) vs. Artur Beterbiev (12-0)

When: Saturday October 6, 2018 The Line: — Over/Under: See the Latest Odds TV: DAZN

Boxing Odds

  • Callum Johnson +450
  • Artur Beterbiev -750

33-year-old Englishman Callum Johnson enters this fight coming off a stunning first round TKO win over Frank Buglioni in March. The win was Johnson’s fourth straight KO victory and 12th in his career overall.

33-year-old Russian, Artur Beterbiev (12-0) enters this fight coming off an exciting 12th round KO win over Enrico Koelling almost one year ago in November of 2017. The win was the 12th straight KO win in as many fights for the reigning IBF light heavyweight champ.

Prediction

Artur Beterbiev might be the reigning champ and he might have knocked out all 12 of his opponents so far, but I like the similarly unbeaten Callum Johnson in this fight for one main reason – he’s been more active. With Artur Beterbiev out of the ring for almost a full year, I suspect he’s going to have some ring rust he’s going to need to get rid of early on in this bout and that’s when I’m expecting Callum Johnson to strike.

Johnson likes to mix it up and brawl and conditioning was an issue for Beterbiev in the past. I’m feeling like the underdog in this matchup is actually offering more value than the favorite. Englishman, Callum Johnson is the pick for me. I love the value he’s offering, plus he’s got the edge in experience and has yet to taste defeat as a pro!

Boxing Betting Pick: Callum Johnson Via Eighth Round KO

Danny Roman (25-2-1) vs. Gavin McDonnell (20-1-2)

Boxing Odds

  • Gavin McDonnell +225
  • Danny Roman -285

28-year-old ‘Baby Faced Assassin’ Danny Roman has won a whopping 17 straight fights and comes into this matchup off a unanimous decision win over Moises Flores in June. That win followed another unanimous decision win over Ryo Matsumoto in February. Roman also fought twice in 2017 after taking- and winning – four fights in 2016.

32-year-old Englishman Gavin McDonnell has won four straight bouts and comes into this affair off a unanimous decision win over Stuart Hall in June. McDonnell has been very active with a whopping six fights in the last two years. McDonnell recently beat Gamal Yafai, also via unanimous decision in March while fighting three times in 2017 as well.

Prediction

For this fight, there is only one pick and that’s reigning champ Danny Roman. Yes, Gavin McDonnell is very, very good and he certainly won’t go away easily. However, Danny Roman is special and could go down as one of the best smaller fighters of his era. Roman is more experienced and more polished and he’ll get the win, although, I’m thinking this one is going the distance.

Boxing Betting Pick: Danny Roman Via Unanimous Decision
