Saturday, January 2nd Bouts – Boxing Lines & Picks

Raul Curiel -1000 / Ramses Agaton +1400

Curiel has started his career by going 8-0 with 6 knockouts. This is what boxing fans call a stepping stone bout. Ramses Agaton has a small shot, a “one-punch hit the perfect spot” shot of beating Curiel. Agaton has 12 losses and 7 losses in his last 10.

Boxing Pick: Raul Curiel

Roger Gutierrez +465 / Rene Alvarado -630

25-3-1 Roger Gutierrez will put up a tough fight. He’s won five in a row. Ray Alvarado, though, hasn’t lost since 2017. Even though Alvarado’s got 8 losses on his record, he’s on fire with 8 straight wins. His last loss happened versus Yuriorkis Gamboa. Still, Alvardo is 31-years-old while Gutierrez is just 25. We’ll side with the younger underdog.

Boxing Pick: Roger Gutierrez

Deejay Kriel +335 / Felix Alvarado -435

The 16-1-1 South African Deejay Kriel steps into the ring against tough Felix Alvarado. Alvarado’s last loss was in 2014. The problem Kriel has in this fight is he’s up against the more experienced boxer. But Felix has primarily fought in his native Nicaragua. Also, Kriel has a style that could cause Alvarado issues. Give the dog a chance.

Boxing Pick: Deejay Kriel

Luke Campbell +310 / Ryan Garcia -410

At 20-0, Ryan Garcia has already proven to be one of the better fighters in the lightweight division. The problem every boxer has with Garcia is dealing with his height and reach. Ryan has a 70” reach and is 5’ 10”. Luke is 5’ 9” and although he has a longer reach by an inch, he doesn’t use it. For some reason, UK boxers like Campbell don’t use their jab.

This is a much worse matchup for Campbell than when he fought Vasiliy Lomachencko in 2019. Loma doesn’t have Garcia’s height, reach, or power. Campbell managed to lose that fight against the much smaller man. What chance does he have versus someone like Garcia?

Luke not using his jab will lead to another fantastic Garcia knockout win. Ryan will hang to the outside, use his jab to set up power punches, and then knockout Campbell within the first four rounds.

Because the KO is likely to happen early, consider placing wagers on early round prop bets. It will be a surprise if Campbell lasts past the fourth.

Boxing Pick: Ryan Garcia
