Weekend Boxing Matches
- When: Friday, Jan. 29 – Saturday Jan. 30
Friday, January 29th Bouts
- Jose De Jesus Macias +900 / Steven Butler -2000
29-year-old Canadian Steven Butler heads down to Mexico to take on Jose De Jesus Macias. Butler has a terrific 28-2-1 record. He’s knocked out 24 of his opponents. Butler tends to keep his hands low. Will that cause an issue against Jesus Macias? It could but it’s unlikely too. Butler is 2 ½ inches taller and has a 3-inch reach advantage. No doubt, he’s going to outweigh Macias by at least 10 pounds on fight night. The chalk wins.
Boxing Free Pick: Steven Butler
- Sadriddin Ahkmedov -2000 / Stephen Danyo +900
At 22, Sadriddin Ahkmedov has the look of the next great Khazakhstan boxer. He’s 11-0 with 10 knockouts. Ahkmedov does a lot of thing right. He’s a patient power puncher who sets up his opponents for dominating blows. If Danyo uses his length, he can keep this close in the early rounds. It’s difficult seeing the underdog winning the bout, though. Ahkmedov has too much power.
Boxing Free Pick: Sadriddin Ahkmedov
- Beibut Shuminov -5000 / Raphael Murphy +1400
At 18-2 with 12 knockouts, Beibut Shuminov has Raphael Murphy over a barrel. Shuminov has won 4 in a row since a 2019 loss to Bernard Hopkins. The 35-year-old Murphy doesn’t have much chance in this bout. If Murphy fights like he normally does, Beibut should land power punches in the first round. Expect the bout to last no longer than 3 to 4 rounds.
Boxing Free Pick: Beibut Shuminov
Saturday, January 30th Bouts
- Caleb Truax +1200 / Caleb Plant -3500
Plant wants to pad his 20-0 record, which is the reason he’ll hop into the ring to face Caleb Truax on Saturday. Truax is a decent boxer, no doubt. He’s also got great experience. But he’s 37-years-old fighting the 28-year-old IBF World Super Middleweight champ.
Plant fights tall. Meaning he uses his reach. He measures his opponents with his jab and then lands power punches from the outside. Also, the champ can throw punches into small openings and land. In the battle of the Calebs, Plant wins.
Boxing Free Pick: Caleb Plant
Truax Vs Plant Prop Picks
- Plant by KO, TKO, or DQ -250
- Draw or Technical Draw +3300
- Plant by Decision or Technical Decision +210
Plant should knock out Caleb Truax. The odds are at -250, which are dreadfully low. But sometimes, we shouldn’t look past low odds. We especially shouldn’t look past low odds if they don’t constitute an underlay bet.
Boxing Free Pick: Plant by KO, TKO, or DQ
In what round will Plant win?
- Round 1 +2500
- Round 2 +1800
- Round 3 +1400
- Round 4 +1100
- Round 5 +900
- Round 6 +850
- Round 7 +850
- Round 8 +850
- Round 9 +900
- Round 10 +1100
- Round 11 +1400
- Round 12 +1800
When it comes to which round Plant lands the knockout blow, it’s difficult to know. It makes some sense to play multiple rounds. In this case, playing the third round and fourth round looks best.
Caleb Truax has suffered 2 knockout losses. Daniel Jacobs ended Truax’s night in their 2015 bout in the tenth. In 2016, Anthony Dirrell said, “lights out” to Truax in the first. Round 1 knockouts don’t often happen.
Plant knocked Mike Lee out in the third, though. The +1400 makes Round 3 a possible play. Round 10 at +1100 is another good play. If you want to add a third round, the odds on Round 4 are also fair.
Boxing Free Pick: Round 3, Round 4 and/or Round 11
