Usyk Battles Joshua in Saudi Arabia | Boxing Lines and Betting Picks
- When: Saturday, August 20
Zhilei Zhang +489 vs Filip Hrgovic -1111 | 12-Rounds IBF Heavyweight Eliminator
- Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – DAZN
Chalk Filip Hrgovic is 14-0 with 12 knockout wins. Hrgovic blasted Emir Ahmatovic in his last, forcing a technical knockout in the third round of a scheduled ten.
Hrgovic, no doubt, should be the chalk in this. But the odds don’t justify a bet. Zhilei Zhang is legit. The 24-0-1 boxer has 19 knockout victories. Zhang has won his last couple of fights via KO. The dog has a shot.
Boxing Pick: Zhilei Zhang
Anthony Joshua +148 vs Oleksander Usyk -217 | 12-Rounds WBO, WBA, and IBF Heavyweight Titles
- Jeddah, Saudi Arabia – DAZN
Anthony Joshua has never had the boxing skills that will lead to wins versus tough and well-schooled pugilists like Oleksander Usyk.
The Ukrainian champ frustrated Joshua in the first bout. There’s no reason to believe the outcome is different in the second fight. At times Joshua crosses his feet. If he hadn’t built a record by beating cream puffs, he wouldn’t even be in this position.
Boxing Pick: Oleksander Usyk
Hector Garcia -303 vs Roger Gutierrez +194 | 12-Rounds WBA “Super” Junior Lightweight Title
- Hollywood, Florida – Showtime
26-3-1 with 20 knockout wins, underdog Roger Gutierrez brings a nice resume into the ring. The dog has some talent.
Gutierrez hasn’t lost since 2017 and is on a 7-match winning streak. But although Gutierrez has a chance, he faces a beast on Saturday. Hector Garcia is 15-0 with 10 knockout wins.
2 of Gutierrez’s losses happened via KO. This one may not go the distance.
Boxing Pick: Hector Garcia
Botirzhon Akhmedov -243 vs Alberto Puello +162 | 12-Rounds WBA “Super” Junior Welterweight Title
Puello versus Akhmedov could be Saturday’s best bout. Both are terrific boxer. The chalk is 9-1 with 8 knockout wins.
Puello is 20-0 with 10 knockout victories. The underdog has more experience. But Akhmedov’s lone loss happened to excellent Mario Barrios. Puello will fight well. It won’t be enough to best the favorite.
Boxing Pick: Botirzhon Akhmedov
Sergey Lipinets -357 vs Oscar Figueroa Jr. +222 | 12-Rounds – Junior Lightweights
16-2-1 with 12 knockout victories, Sergey Lipinets is no joke. The favorite in this steps into the ring after his first professional loss.
Then 26-0 Jaron Ennis knocked out Lipinets in the sixth round of a scheduled twelve. Lipinets fought okay up until the KO.
Figueroa is 28-2-1 with 19 knockout wins. Figeuroa is good enough to win this. But he hasn’t fought since 2021. Still, Figeuroa has a 6 inches reach advantage. Backing the dog makes sense.
Boxing Pick: Oscar Figueroa Jr.
Eduardo Baez +576 vs. Emanuel Navarrete -1666 | 12-Rounds WBO Featherweight Title
- San Diego, California – ESPN/ESPN+
Underdog Eduardo Baez has a very good 21-2-2 record. Baez doesn’t have a ton of power, he’s knocked out just 7 of his opponents.
The lack of power should be Eduardo’s undoing. Emanuel Navarrete is 35-1 with 29 knockout wins. The loss happened in 2012 when Navarrete was just starting out.
The champ should win this, no doubt. The question is how long will the fight last. Although Navarrete can flatten any opponent he faces, Baez has a great chin. Also, Navarrete’s last couple of fights have ended via unanimous decision.
Baez can last until the final bell. So if you don’t want to back the champ at the low moneyline odds consider a prop that says this fight goes the distance.
Boxing Pick: Emanuel Navarrete
