Name the comedy television shows receiving the most Golden Globe buzz

Ted Lasso swept the Emmys. So it makes sense that the Apple+ show about an American Football coach at the helm of a Premier League squad would also sweep the Globe’s, right?

Not so fast. The Golden Globes understands that one of the reasons they’re in Hollywood’s dog house is because they lack diversity.

So the television show on the comedy side receiving the most buzz isn’t Ted Lasso, it’s Reservation Dogs. The FX show features all Indigenous writers and directors, is about Indigenous teens, and has an all Indigenous cast.

Before dropping dollars on Lasso to sweep the comedy categories, handicap Reservation Dogs.

What are the drama television shows causing the most Globe buzz?

The Crown, the Netflix show that swept the Emmys, didn’t grab a nomination for best drama. Instead, the Golden Globes handed out nominations to a couple of out of the box Netflix shows, the French based comedy-drama Lupin and the most watched drama in Netflix history, the Korean show Squid Game.

Both are causing big time buzz. Squid Game might be the most intriguing, and violent, show in Netflix history. The violence in Squid Game is on a cartoon-like level, but underneath the incredibly unbelievable premise, Squid Game is a fascinating commentary about South Korean society.

After all, the Squid Game participants are only there because they want to get rid of their debt. The show is brilliant, heart-wrenching, exhilarating, and incredibly sad.

Lupin is a fantastic show about a con artist thief. It’s a great addition to the Netflix cannon. So Lupin has caused a bunch of buzz as well.

What are the musical and comedy films creating the most buzz?

Don’t Look Up, starring Leonardo DiCaprio about a couple of low-level astronomers who go on a media tour to tell the world about an impending comet strike, has gotten rave reviews. Critics say DiCaprio provides one of his best performances.

Not only that, but Leo is a normal person in this move. That alone makes it worth a look.

The other comedy or musical that has generated enormous buzz is Tick, Tick . . . Boom! Lin Manuel-Miranda, Hamilton himself, directs. The movie stars Andrew Garfield and is a true story about Jonathan Larson.

We have no idea why Tick, Tick . . . Boom! is getting all the buzz. The only reason we can think of is because Manuel-Miranda behind it. In any case, critics say the movie is brilliant.

What are the drama films creating the most buzz?

Belfast has gotten a lot of buzz. The film is a lock to to grab an Academy Award. King Richard, starring Will Smith as Venus’ and Serena’s father, has gotten some buzz.

Dune has gotten a lot of buzz and so has CODA. The film with the most buzz, though, is The Power of the Dog.

Jane Campion directs. The film stars Benedict Cumberbatch and real life spouses Jesse Plemons, Landry in Friday Night Lights, and Kirsten Dunst, Mary Jane Watson in the Toby McGuire Spiderman films.

Dunst, Plemons, and Cumberbatch are A-list thespians. Also, Jane Campion is one of the world’s greatest directors and she’s a woman. So expect the buzz for The Power of the Dog to continue.
