2021 Doha GP Expert Analysis – MotoGP Betting

Written by on April 1, 2021

The MotoGP season got underway last weekend in Qatar and week two of the season will see the riders stay in the same country, and at the same location. Last weekend, it was Maverick Vinales who came up with the win at the Losail International Circuit. This weekend, he will try to make it back-to-back wins on the same track. Vinales will have some serious challengers looking to run him down and make a strong start to what promises to be a long and trying season. It may be the same track, but that does not necessarily mean the same result, so let’s take a look at the favorites for the Grand Prix of Doha. Let’s jump right into action so you can make your bets against their MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2021 Qatar GP

Maverick Vinales

After a strong showing and a win last weekend, it would have been a surprise if it was any rider other than Vinales that was in as the favorite. Given that Vinales had already won in Qatar a few years back, he was very much deserving of a spot among the favorites, His win last weekend just cemented that in the eyes of the bookies. One thing worth remembering is that Vinales has a habit of making fast starts t the season. In 2017, he opened the season with 2 wins in a row, while he had a pair of podium finishes to start the year. Will it be more of the same in 2021.

Francesco Bagnaia

Before making the jump to MotoGP, Bagnaia closed out his time in Moto2 with a win at Qatar in the opening week of the 2018 season. The move to the big time has not panned out has he had hoped, as he has struggled to make any real impact at this level through his first two seasons. Bagnaia showed that he might be ready for a breakout year in 2021, though, as he saw his season get off to a solid start, taking the podium in Qatar with a 3rd place finish. It will be interesting to see how he pushes on from there.

Jack Miller

Miller has made a habit of hanging around the favorites ahead of every race, but he hasn’t proven to be the ideal pick for bettors. In his time in MotoGP, he has only managed to cross the finish line first on one occasion. That win came back in 2016 in the Netherlands, and while he has yet to scale those heights again, he has spent some time on the podium, including landing there twice in a row to close out last season. Last week was not a performance that he will have been proud of, though, as he finished down in 9th.

Joan Mir

Given that he is the defending champion, we are probably going to see Mir up among the favorites on a fairly regular basis in the coming weeks. It was perhaps not the start he had hoped for last weeks as he looks to defend his crown, but his 4th place finish was also not a total disaster. Mir last won in Qatar in 2017 when he was still racing in Moto3, and while he has not really come close to matching that since, he still needs to be considered a threat.
