2023 Grand Prix of Valencia: In any sport, all you can ask for is that the race to win a championship goes the distance, which is exactly what we are getting in MotoGP. It has been a 2-horse race there for a minute now, and it stays that way as we head into the final race of the season in Valencia.

When: Sunday, November 19 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Circuit Ricardo Tormo
TV / Streaming: CNBC

The top 2 riders are separated by 21 points, with 37 points up for grabs in the final weekend. The defending champions, Francesco Bagnaia, has the edge heading into the final race, but he needs one more good run to hold off Jorge Martin to win his second straight World Championship. The stage has been beautifully set, so all we can do now is wait for that final race and get our wagers on before it all goes down, so let’s look at some of the potential favorites for Valencia.

Francesco Bagnaia

With a 21-point lead, the defending champion is in the perfect position to go out this weekend and win his second straight title. It certainly sounds simple enough, but if you follow this sport, you will be well aware that absolutely nothing is guaranteed. Keep in mind that while he does have a win in Valencia, he finished 9th on this track last season. A similar finish this time around could prove to be problematic, especially if Jorge Martin goes out and gets the win. It is worth noting that Bagnaia had the championship all wrapped up at this stage last season, so there was no need to go out and put on a big show in Valencia.

Jorge Martin

How fitting would it be for Jorge Martin to win his first World Championship on home soil this weekend. While that dream is very much alive, Martin really does need to deliver the goods and come away with the win. The good news for Martin is that this is a track where he has had some success in the past. He won in Valencia at the Moto3 and Moto 2 levels and has also performed well at the top level. While he has not won in Valencia in MotoGP, he was on the podium in each of his two seasons racing at the top level.

Marco Bezzecchi

While he cannot win a World Championship this year, you have to say that this has been a breakout season for Bezzecchi. In his first year with MotoGP in 2022, he managed to finish 14th overall, so his 3rd place finish this season is a marked improvement and sets him up as a legitimate contender for the coming season. Bezzecchi was unable to maintain the pace that he set at the start of the season, cooling off in the second half, but with 3 wins under his belt, he could still be a threat in Valencia.

Brad Binder

This is a rider that is still looking for his first win of the season, but you look at his past performances in Valencia and you see a guy that is a potential threat. He won on this track in both Moto3 and Moto2, while finishing 2nd in this race at the top level last season. While he does still feel like a bit of a longshot to take the checkered flag, wagering on him to land on the podium does not seem like a bad bet at all.
