Season Series
Gators go for the upset as they knocked off LSU 82-77 in overtime in Baton Rouge on Feb. 20. Kevaughn Allen scored 12 of his 21 points in overtime, highlighted by a pair of 3s late in the extra period. Jalen Hudson and Noah Locke each scored 15 for Florida.
The victory was Florida’s first over a ranked team this year. Naz Reid had 16 points and 15 rebounds for LSU. Skylar Mays scored 18 points for the Tigers, who saw the game begin to slip away when Allen’s consecutive 3s gave Florida a 76-70 lead with 1:12 to go. Tremont Waters, who has been LSU’s leading scorer this season, struggled. With the score tied in the final seconds of regulation, he badly missed a pull-up 3.
Why Bet on LSU?
The Tigers stayed in first in the SEC with Saturday’s 74-69 win at Alabama. LSU (24-5, 14-2 Southeastern Conference) took a 64-59 lead on a layup by Skyler Mays with 3:19 left. Alabama cut it to one but then Riley Norris’ pass was intercepted by Tremont Waters to set up a stylish but risky finish at the other end. The Tigers trailed by six points midway through the second half. They closed on a 17-7 run to maintain a share of the league lead.
The win was just LSU’s fifth in the last 25 years in Coleman Coliseum and was the Tigers eighth consecutive road win in SEC play. The Tigers 8-0 mark on the road with one road game to play ties the school mark of eight road wins in a season originally set by the 1980-81 team.
Mays had 16 second-half points to lead LSU to the victory with 20 total. Mays also had six rebounds, three assists, and three steals. In the final five minutes, Mays had 10 of LSU’s final 17 points. Javonte Smart got LSU off to a good first half start with 13 points and finished with 19 points, four assists, and four steals.
Naz Reid had eight second-half points to finish with 12 total and also added a double-double with 13 rebounds. Waters saw his first action after missing two games and played 24 minutes, scoring five points with two rebounds, three assists, and four steals.
Waters is a finalist for the Bob Cousy Award, which goes to the nation’s top point guard. Waters is averaging 15.3 points per game, 2.9 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game. He is eighth in scoring, third in assists and first in steals. He is also eighth in free throw percentage. In league games, Waters is fourth in the SEC in scoring at 17.9 points per game, first in assists (6.1) and steals (2.9) and ninth in field goal percentage at 44.6%. Waters overall steals average of 3.0 is fourth in the NCAA.

Why Bet on Florida?
The Gators (17-12, 9-7) enter the midweek in a five-way tie for fourth place and the final double-bye spot in the SEC Tournament which begins next week in Nashville.
Florida was upset at home by Georgia on Saturday, 61-55, to end a five-game winning streak. Nicolas Claxton scored a career-high 25 points, including four in the final two minutes, and the Bulldogs ended a nine-game losing streak. Claxton dominated the Gators inside and out, offensively and defensively. He made 9 of 12 shots and altered several on the other end. Jordan Harris sealed the victory with a driving layup that put the Bulldogs up 59-55 with 27 seconds remaining.
The Bulldogs ranked in the bottom third of the SEC in scoring offense (67.9 points per game) and field-goal percentage (.417), shot 56 percent for the game — their best in league play this season — and went 5-for-5 from the floor over the last five minutes.
Florida got 13 points from fifth-year senior swingman Jalen Hudson, but he was 4-for-13 from the floor, while senior guard and scoring leader KeVaughn Allen went 1-for-10 for just five points, as the Gators shot 37.5 percent for the game and made just five of 21 from the 3-point line.
UF blew a huge opportunity to post an 18th overall win and clinch a winning record in SEC play, two elements the NCAA Tournament selection committee views favorably, not to mention an opportunity to take sole possession of fourth place in the league standings.
Wednesday is Senior Night for the trio of Allen, Hudson and Kevarrius Hayes.
