Teams that COULD be a No.1 seed | March Madness Betting Analysis

Gonzaga Bulldogs

  • Odds to win the title: +460

The Bulldogs have been the best team in college basketball all season long, and rightfully are betting favorites to win it all. The Zags have been on a mission after losing in last years’ championship game and have been crushing opponents this year, by nearly 24 points, every game. The Gonzaga Bulldogs are led by Chet Holmgren, who could be the first pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.  The seven foot freshman is averaging almost 15 points, 10 rebounds, and shooting over 60% from the field.  Add All-American Drew Timme to the mix, who leads the team in scoring with 18 a game, and Gonzaga could be unstoppable. The Bulldogs are built to go the distance and are poised to win the school’s first ever national championship.

Arizona Wildcats

  • Odds to win the title: +880

Arizona is as good as any other team in the nation, ranking #3 overall averaging 85 points a game.  First-year coach Tommy Lloyd has turned this program around after serving as an assistant with Gonzaga. The Arizona Wildcats are projected as a No. 1 seed after winning games by an average of almost 20 points.  Arizona can beat you on the offensive glass and dominate inside the paint.  Bennedict Mathurin, likely a future NBA lottery pick leads the team in scoring averaging 17 pts a game and is one of the most explosive scorers in the nation, once he gets rolling.  If seeded as a one seed, expect the Wildcats’ to march into New Orleans for the Final Four.

Auburn Tigers

  • Odds to win the title: +1175

Auburn has never won a national title and began the season listed at 125/1 to win it all.  Now, it is one of the favorites.  The Auburn Tigers are led by Jabari Smith who leads the team in scoring averaging almost 16 points a game and should be a top 5 pick in the NBA Draft.  Of Auburn’s losses, two were in overtime to very good opponents.   Many pundits feel Auburn may have peaked too early, and could be denied at #1 seed.  Still, The Tigers have one of the best motivators in college basketball, Coach Bruce Pearl, and he should have this team ready when the tournament tips off.

Kansas Jayhawks

  • Odds to win the title: +1525

The Jayhawks have been led by Ochai Agbaji, who is a national player of the year candidate.  He’s been dominant, leading the conference in scoring averaging over 20 points a game and 5 boards.  Kansas has a solid support cast, enough size and shooting skill, and a coach, Bill Self, who has won a national championship for this school.  Four of their losses have been to teams ranked in the top-20.  Depending on the draw, the Jayhawks have the squad to make a deep run.
