Rice Owls at Texas Longhorns – Monday

The Texas Longhorns started last week sitting in the #2 spot in the nation after an unbeaten start to the season. We are probably going to see them drop a spot or two this week, as they took their first loss of the season to Illinois last week. They did bounce back with a win to close things out, but this is a tricky little game all the same. Rice come into this one sitting at 6-2, although both of those losses have come on the road, while the Longhorns are a perfect 6-0 in their own building. This should be another win for Texas, but will they light it up the way they did over UAFB on Saturday?

Memphis Tigers at Alabama Crimson Tide – Tuesday

With the Longhorns set to drop in the rankings, others will rise, with Alabama potentially in that mix. In fact, there is no “potentially” about it, as Alabama closed out their week with a dominating win over the #1 ranked Houston Cougars. The danger here is that the 8-1 Crimson Tide let down after such a huge win when they host the Memphis Tigers, who come into this one at 8-2. I don’t see that happening, but I will be interested to see what the spread is for this one.

UCLA Bruins at Maryland Terrapins – Wednesday

This is arguably one of the better games on the schedule this week, regardless of the fact that Maryland appears to be in freefall. The Terrapins opened the season with 8 straight wins, climbing to #13 in the national rankings, but after 2 losses last week, including their first at home, Maryland is on the slide. Not so for UCLA, who had another perfect week to get to 8-2 on the year, which virtually assures that they will move up from the #18 spot. Can Maryland stop the bleeding against a very tough opponent?

Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Wisconsin Badgers – Thursday

It’s a quieter schedule in college basketball on Thursday, with very few big games to talk about. I chose this one because the Wisconsin Badgers are on the rise at the moment, coming into this game on a 3-game winning run that has taken them to 8-2 on the season. They do not score a lot, but they are also defensively sound, which should see them in good stead against Lehigh, who are 4-4 right now, which includes a 1-2 record away from home. Look for Wisconsin to continue climbing with another win.
