Absolutely huge game from the ACC Tournament on Wednesday with both ninth-seeded NC State and No. 8 Syracuse on the NCAA Tournament bubble. The loser probably will not be going to the Big Dance, while the winner gets top-seeded Virginia on Thursday. The Orange should be slight favorites on the NCAAB odds over the Wolfpack. Syracuse is +5000 to win the ACC Tournament and NC State +10000.

NC State (13-9) closed the regular season with a fifth straight win last Wednesday, 80-69 at Notre Dame.  The Wolfpack were to play Saturday vs. Virginia Tech but that was canceled.

Freshman guard Cam Hayes led the Pack with a career-high 20 points and four rebounds while redshirt freshman guard Dereon Seabron recorded his first career double-double with career-highs in points (17) and rebounds (13) against the Irish. Junior forward Jericole Hellems also reached double figures with 13 points and six rebounds. Notre Dame took its one and only lead on the first basket of the game.

NC State has now won five consecutive ACC road games, the most consecutive road wins for the program since the 1973-74 season.

Manny Bates was named to the ACC’s All-Defensive team and Hellems earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors as the league announced the 2020-21 season awards Monday morning. Bates is on pace to lead the ACC in blocks for the second consecutive season. He currently leads the conference in blocks in all games with a 2.95 blocks per game average. He led the conference in league-only games with a 2.75 blocks per game average. In 21 games this season, Bates has had multiple blocks in 14 games and has had three or more blocks in 11 games.

Griffin’s double-double was his fifth of the season, tying him for the fifth-most double-doubles in the conference.

Syracuse scored 11 unanswered points, nine of which came on three triples from Griffin, to open the second half and extend its lead to 14. The Tigers failed to cut the Syracuse advantage to single-digits over the remainder of the contest. The finished 13-1 at home this season.

The win improved Syracuse’s record in the Dome to 13-1 (.929), its highest home winning percentage since 19-0 mark in the 2011-12 season. The victory was also Syracuse’s 600th victory inside the Carrier Dome.

Sophomore Quincy Guerrier was named third team and Griffin, a junior, honorable mention All-Atlantic Coast Conference in voting by the league’s coaches and select media members.

Guerrier is averaging 14.5 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, and has started all 23 contests for Syracuse this winter.
