Tennessee vs LSU NCAAB Odds & Game Preview

Written by on February 22, 2019

We have said before that while the #1 seed at the end of the regular season is a fantastic achievement, it is no guarantee of success in the tournament. Every team that still has a shot at landing in the #1 spot will tell that getting there is just a small part of the goals for the season, with a national championship being very much at the top of the list. When this week comes to an end on Sunday, there will be just two weeks left in the regular season, which means that, barring a total collapse by the teams at the top, the rankings as they sit now may not undergo a dramatic change.

The Tennessee Volunteers spent several weeks in the #1 spot, but they ended up dropping out of it last weekend. Given the results of the current week’s games, they might just be moving back up again, assuming they can pick up a win in a very tough road trip to face the high-flying LSU Tigers this coming Saturday afternoon. Why bet on the Tennessee Volunteers?

The Volunteers forged their way to the top of the national rankings on the back of a 19-game winning streak. A single loss knocked them down a few notches, with an 86-69 defeat at the hands of Kentucky doing them in last weekend. While that was certainly a tough loss, we have to still remember that this team is still a very good 24-2 on the season.

They are going to get another serious test on Saturday, though, as they are going up against an LSU Tigers team that has moved all the way up to the #13 spot in the national rankings. Tennessee does still have the lead in the SEC, but they are also just a game up on LSU, so that may change with a loss here. The Volunteers are 11-13-1 ATS this season, which includes being 5-3 ATS on the road.

Why bet on the LSU Tigers?

The LSU Tigers really came to life once they got into conference play, going 11-1 through their first 12 games before being a surprise loser to Florida earlier this week. The danger now is that they may end up getting into a bit of a funk if they lose this one, too, although there would certainly be no shame in losing to a team as good as Tennessee. Tennessee vs LSU is going to be a close one.

Overall, the LSU Tigers now have a 21-5 record, which includes a home record of 13-3. They have not had a lot of joy against Tennessee at home over the years, winning just 2 of the last 7 meetings. That said, they are 6-3 ATS in their last 9 home meetings with the Volunteers. Overall, the Tigers are 14-11-1 ATS and 7-9 ATS in games played at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This has the potential to be the best game of the weekend, as I think we are in for a bit of a thriller here. This really is a bit of a coin flip game, and with both teams playing so well, picking a winner is not that easy. I am taking Tennessee to edge it.
