The first week of the college basketball season is in the books and we saw great performances, a few surprises, and a few teams who look to be ready to set the tone from the off. Like all sports, though, it is never a good idea to overreact to the first few games of the season, especially in the NCAA, where the best teams in the country tend to start out with games against lesser opponents as they prepare for the tough conference games that will begin later in the year. Still, we did see some ranked teams take down other ranked opponents, such as Duke coming up with a big win over Kentucky. We will get a clearer idea of what impact that had when the new rankings are released on Monday afternoon. For now, let’s look at the week ahead to see what big games are on offer so you can get ready to bet against their NCAA Basketball odds.
College Basketball Betting – Week 2 odds: Top Games to Wager On
Illinois Fighting Illini Vs Marquette Golden Eagles – Monday
This is a season of redemption for Illinois after they were bounced in the 2nd round of the tournament last season. They have opened this season with a pair of comfortable wins, and while you would also expect them to win this one, it has been a solid start for Marquette, who have won both their games in rather convincing style.
Virginia Cavaliers at Houston Cougars – Tuesday
As it stands now, both of these teams are in the top 25, but with Virginia going 1-1 to start the season, they will almost certainly drop out, as they started the season at #25. Houston have seen their season get off to a good start, delivering back-to-back wins in the opening week, although they did need OT to beat Hofstra in their season opener.
St. John’s Red Storm Vs Indiana Hoosiers – Wednesday
Both of these teams are looking for a bounce back season after failing to make the tournament cut last season and both are off to a very solid start. The Red Storm have been an offensive juggernaut in winning both of their opening games, while Indiana is coming into this week on the heels of a big OT win over Northern Illinois to get to 2-0 on the season.
Ohio State Buckeyes Vs Xavier Musketeers – Thursday
It’s a bit of a quiet day on Thursday, with just a few ranked teams taking to the court ahead of the weekend action. The Ohio State Buckeyes will hit the road looking to maintain their perfect 2-0 start to the season, but they will be up against a solid Xavier squad that is also 2-0, with both of those wins coming on home court. This should be a fun one to watch.
Ohio Bobcats at Kentucky Wildcats – Friday
It is always interesting to see how a team bounces back from a tough loss, which is why we will be keeping an eye on Kentucky. They opened their season with a loss to Duke, which is certainly nothing to be ashamed about, and while they did win their second game of the season, they will be looking to get on a winning roll with the Ohio Bobcats coming to town with a 2-0 record.
