South Carolina State at Clemson College Football Expert Picks

Written by on September 14, 2016

Week 2 of the college football season was something of an odd one, as it saw some of the top teams really struggle against much lesser opponents. TCU fell to Arkansas, Georgia struggled to get past Nicholls State, and Clemson made things more difficult than they needed to be against Troy. There can be an argument made that it’s tough to make that drop down after paying huge opening week games, which was the case for Georgia and Clemson, but it may also be a sign that these teams are just not as good as we think they are. The Clemson Tigers are right up there among the favorites to win the NCAAF National Championship, which isn’t really surprising given how close they came to winning it all last season. Clemson have just not established themselves as a legitimate threat, at least not yet, and they likely won’t until they get that offense rolling and start to put up some gaudy numbers. That may well just happen this weekend. Find the latest betting odds here.

Why bet on the Clemson Tigers

The Clemson Tigers are in something of a no win situation against the Bulldogs this weekend. They have not played particularly well, especially offensively, through the opening two weeks of the season, and a big win against the Bulldogs isn’t going to convince anyone that the tide has turned. That said, the Tigers need a match-up like this in order to solve the problems that they have been facing on the offensive side of the ball. They have been sloppy and ineffective at times, and running up the score here may finally help them get into some sort of a rhythm, which can only help them with the bigger challenges that are still to come this season.

Why bet on the South Carolina State Bulldogs

If truth be told, there really isn’t any reason why these guys would be worth betting on this weekend. They started the season with a 38-0 loss to UCF in a game where they only managed 12 total first downs. They did manage to get some points on the board last weekend in a 53-24 loss to Louisiana Tech, but you have to wonder how they are going to fare offensively against a Clemson team that is coming into this game with something to prove. QB Caleb York is in his second year as the starter, and while he has not yet hit the heights of his freshman season, he is playing with a whole bunch of new guys in front of him. There will be better things to come for the Bulldogs once they get into conference play.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This isn’t really a question of whether or not Clemson will win, but rather by how many points. The Tigers should be able to run up the score here in a very comfortable win.
