2018 NFL Season Six Most Intriguing Bets

Written by on August 3, 2018

The NFL takes to the field for the first time on Thursday, August 2, which is when we will see the annual Hall of Fame Game. While there is still a little over a month before the regular season begins, seeing football on TV is usually a sign that it’s time to start getting our bets for the season in order. Rather than focusing on individual games here, I am going to look at 6 NFL props that might be fun to take on in the coming season. These are all speculative at best, but isn’t that all part of the fun of trying to figure out how things will go in the very unpredictable NFL?

2018 NFL Season Six Most Intriguing Bets

Most Passing Yards in 2018 NFL Season

There are some very obvious names that come to mind when thinking about this bet, with Brady and Brees very much at the top of the list. Not having Julian Edelman to throw to for the first 4 games of the season may put a dent in Brady’s final number, while the Saints now have a more balanced attack that is not reliant on the arm of Brees. For me, that leaves Aaron Rodgers as the favorite to win this title.

Most Running Yards in the 2018 NFL Season

For me, Todd Gurley is the man to beat here, as the Rams have invested heavily in an O-line that has been built to protect the QB and blast open holes for the running game. Gurley is the obvious pick here, but I also have a longshot pick in mind. The Giants have upgraded their line in an effort to protect Eli Manning, and that may just benefit their rookie RB Saquon Barkley. The first year man is definitely worth a look.

Most Wins in the 2018 NFL Season

The bookies have the New England Patriots in as the favorite to have the most wins this season, but I need to look elsewhere for some value. I have a couple of options here, both of whom reside in the NFC. The Minnesota Vikings have the best defense in the league, and they also now have a legitimate QB with Kirk Cousins, which adds up to a team who will win a lot of games. The LA Rams are the other option here, but I think I am going to stick with Minnesota.

Least Wins in 2018 NFL Season

When you consider that the Cleveland Browns have only managed 1 win in the last 2 seasons, they are the obvious choice here. I think they will be better this season, though, as word out of camp is that rookie QB Baker Mayfield very much looks the part. I think the team in danger of finishing dead last are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. They play in the best division in football right now and will also start the season without the suspended Jameis Winston.

Rookie of the Year in 2018 NFL Season

I already mentioned this young man earlier, so it probably comes as no real surprise that I am putting my money on Saquon Barkley. A truly explosive RB, Barkley could take the NFL by storm in 2018. Saquon Barkley is one of the favorites to win ROY in the 2018 NFL Season.

MVP for 2018 NFL Season

It’s not a very bold statement to suggest that a QB will land this title, as that is the way it has gone in 11 of the last 12 seasons. I am trying to think outside the box with this one and have landed on Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans. He was putting up some big numbers before getting hurt in his rookie year. He will come back strong and finish the season with some impressive stats. The fact that the Texans will jump from 4 wins in 2017 to a potential double-digit season this year will also help Watson’s chances of being league MVP.
