Is Nick Bosa or Quinnen Williams the better choice to win the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year?

If the San Francisco 49ers make the playoffs this season, part of the reason will be because DE Nick Bosa dominated. Bosa is in a great position as a defensive rookie. He gets to play opposite one of the top defensive ends in football the past few seasons, former Kansas City Chief Dee Ford. If Ford is at one-hundred percent, teams must use their running backs to double-team him, that should leave Bosa in one-on-one situations all season long.

Quinnen Williams can win the award, but he’s a defensive tackle. Defensive tackles don’t get the sacks that ends get unless they’re named Aaron Donald. Williams is a New York Jet, though. That means he gest to play in front of awesome linebacker C.J. Moseley and next to end Leonard Williams.

More than likely, Quinnen frees up opportunities for those two players while in SF Ford will free up opportunities for Bosa. Bosa is the better pick.

Which +700 to +1400 player has the best chance of winning the NFL Defensive ROY?

If the Jacksonville Jaguars use Josh Allen the right way, and if he listens to the Jaguar coaches, he could sack the quarterback at least 12 times his rookie season. Allen has all the physical traits to be the next great, dominating, pass rusher. Like Bosa to San Francisco, Allen will play along a defensive line that should free up opportunities for him.

The only issue? Allen might not even start because the Jags’ are deep in their front seven. A player that has a much better shot at the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award is Montez Sweat. Sweat will start for the Washington Redskins. He’ll start in D.C.’s 3-4 defensive system, which means down linemen Jonathan Allen and Da’Ron Payne plug the middle, freeing Sweat up to do what he does best, rush the quarterback. Sweat has a massive shot to win the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.

Is there a player between +2000 to +4000 odds who can take the award?

Everybody is talking about the Cleveland Browns. The Browns are hot right now. Most of the talk is about their offense. Rightly so because the Browns acquired Odell Beckham Jr. to catch passes from Baker Mayfield.

But, the defense will also be good. Greedy Williams, a great name for a cornerback, should start in Cleveland. Opposite Williams is Denzel Ward. Williams should find himself in single coverage, especially during the early part of the season. That will give Greedy opportunities to show what kind of player he really is. He’s got a big shot to make some flashy interceptions this season.

What player at +4500 odds or has the best chance at winning the 2019 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year?

The Kansas City Chiefs defense this season is much different than last year’s unit. It might be better. It might be worse. One player who will benefit from all of the changes is rookie Justin Thornhill. Thornhill is projected to start at one of the safety positions along with Tyrann Mathieu. Mathieu has battled injuries throughout his career.

For a defensive back, being on island, which Thornhill could end up being on if Mathieu again gets hurt, provides massive risks. It can also provide big rewards. If Thornhill performs, he could end up this season’s NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
