The New York Jets are just playing out the string as we enter Week 13 and it’s frankly better for their future to lose out. The Tennessee Titans, meanwhile, are still trying to stay in the AFC South race as well as in the wild-card hunt. They are one of the bigger Mybookie Sportsbook betting favorites Sunday.

Teams last played Week 14 of the 2015 season and the Jets won 30-8. Ryan Fitzpatrick (now with Tampa Bay) threw three touchdown passes as New York scored on five of its first six possessions, and Marcus Mariota and the Titans were stifled for most of the game.

Brandon Marshall, Eric Decker, and Bilal Powell each caught TD pass for the Jets. Only Powell is still with New York but he’s out for the season. Chris Ivory ran for 101 yards on 22 carries, and Randy Bullock kicked three field goals. Muhammad Wilkerson had three of New York’s five sacks. Mariota finished 21 of 39 for 274 yards and an interception for the Titans.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

The Jets (3-8) are a lock to change head coaches after this season as they are on a five-game skid following a 27-13 home loss to New England last Sunday. The Jets are accustomed to meaningless games in the final month of the season. They’ve had only one compelling December/January in the past eight years (2015).

Josh McCown completed 26-of-45 passes for 276 yards, one touchdown and an interception in the loss to New England. McCown’s touchdown was a 16-yarder to Jermaine Kearse on a quick snap. His interception was a deep ball arm punt into Stephon Gilmore’s coverage. McCown was hurt by a few drops. He was starting a second straight week with rookie Sam Darnold out due to a foot injury.

Isaiah Crowell rushed six times for 30 yards, adding three receptions for 30 additional yards. The game was tied 13-13 late in the third quarter, but the Jets never got their run game in order, instead, McCown attempted 45 passes. Jermaine Kearse caught 6-of-12 targets for 66 yards and a touchdown. Kearse’s 66 yards were his most since Week 6 while the targets were a new season high.

Even though the offense has averaged only 11.2 points per game during the five-game losing streak, Todd Bowles said he’s not considering a change at offensive coordinator. He said Jeremy Bates will continue to call plays. “I thought he called a good game (yesterday),” Bowles said. Good? No. Unconventional? Yes. Bates called 50 pass plays and only 12 runs. Asked why he’s sticking with Bates, Bowles said, “It’s everybody involved, it’s just not Jeremy. The other coaches and the players as well, we’re all involved in it. It’s never pointed to one person.”

It’s not clear yet if Darnold will play this week. Darnold leads the NFL in interceptions (14), even though he missed the past two games, but he displayed intriguing potential before slipping into a funk. The team won’t rush its franchise QB.

Why Bet on Tennessee?

The Titans’ playoff hopes took a major blow Monday night in a 34-17 loss in Houston. According to ESPN’s FPI, a win would have given the Titans a 40 percent chance to make the playoffs. Now at 5-6, their chances fell to 13.7 percent.

The turning point came when the Titans were down 14-10 and Coach Mike Vrabel showed faith in his offensive line by going for it on fourth-and-1 at Houston’s 3-yard line. The run was stuffed. Then, the usually reliable Titans defense gave up a 97-yard touchdown run by Houston running back Lamar Miller on the very next play.

Marcus Mariota completed 22-of-23 passes for 304 yards and two touchdowns. Mariota completed his first 19 passes of the night. Mariota didn’t have his first incompletion until there was 1:06 left in the fourth quarter. He finished with a near-perfect 147.7 passer rating and threw 61- and 48-yard touchdown passes to Jonnu Smith and Corey Davis, respectively. Mariota added 28 rushing yards.

Jets vs Titans should be an easy victory for the Titans.

His completion rate of 95.7 percent set a franchise record and was the second-highest single-game completion percentage in NFL history (minimum 20 attempts). Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers set the all-time NFL record the day before Mariota’s performance at Houston, completing 96.6 percent of his passes (28 of 29) vs. Arizona on Sunday.

Second-year wide receiver Corey Davis led the team with 96 yards on four receptions, including a touchdown. It was the third-highest single-game receiving yardage total of his career. Davis also took a reverse and raced 39 yards for a career-long rushing attempt in the second quarter. His 135 scrimmage yards in the game made up the second-highest total of his career (161 vs. Philadelphia on Sept. 30, 2018).

The Titans sacked Deshaun Watson a total of four times, recording their fourth game of 2018 with at least four sacks. Top Titans CB Malcolm Butler missed the second half in the concussion protocol. Butler was missed, as the Titans trailed by two touchdowns entering the half and needed a strong defensive performance in the second. Cornerback LeShaun Sims replaced Butler. Then again, in the first season of a five-year, $61.25 million deal, Butler has been a liability, performing as one of the league’s most burnable corners. Pro Football Focus has charted 675 yards allowed in Butler’s coverage, the second worst in the NFL.
