Week 16 NFL Expert Picks: Tennessee At Jacksonville

Written by on December 21, 2016

Prior to the start of this season, there were more than a few NFL football pundits who proclaimed that the Jacksonville Jaguars were ready to take a big step forward. After all, ownership finally decided to go out and spend some money in the free agent market, and in Blake Bortles, it looked as though they may have found their QB of the future. Here we are heading into the penultimate week of the season, and the Jaguars are sitting in the cellar with a dismal 2-12 record. Making things all the more disappointing for the Jaguars is the fact that the AFC South is still wide open with 2 weeks to play. Any one of the 3 other teams in the division has a shot at winning it and making it into the playoffs. The Tennessee Titans have been a very pleasant surprise this year, and have a chance to boost their odds of extending their season with a win in Jacksonville on Christmas Eve. The Titans will be going into this one as a 4.5-point betting odds favorite.

Why bet on the Tennessee Titans

If there were NFL rankings for confidence, you have to believe that the Titans would be at or near the top right now. This is a team that is on a roll, and which is finding a way to grind out wins in games they look destined to lose. That was on display in Kansas City last week when they went to kick a last second field goal to win the game. Andy Reid iced the kicker just as he was making his attempt, which he missed. There were no mistakes on the second attempt, as Ryan Succop nailed it to give the Titans 4 wins in their last 5. The Tennessee Titans have now won 3-straight, but only by an average of less than 4 points per game. They are just 6-8 ATS, but did cover handily in their last meeting with the Jags.

Why bet on the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars experienced a total collapse last week versus the Houston Texans, going down 21-20 in a game that they looked to be in total control of. You know things are bad when you lose to a team that benched their starting QB halfway through the game. It was enough for the Jags ownership, as they relieved Coach Gus Bradley of his duties immediately after. It has already been made clear that the new coach does not have to ride with Bortles as the QB, which puts the status of this whole team up in the air. The Jags did win and cover each of the last two meetings with the Titans in Jacksonville, so all may not be lost.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I just don’t see how the Jaguars are going to be able to come out and compete with the franchise in such disarray. The Titans are hot right now, and they can smell the playoffs. I like them to win going away in this one.
