Week 9 NFL Winning Favorites: New York At Miami

Written by on November 4, 2016

We are only halfway through the 2016 NFL season, but I think it’s fair to say that the AFC East Division may already be over. The Patriots are running away with it at 7-1 so far, but there is a definite lifeline for all the other teams in the division. There is definite parity in the AFC this season, and there is the definite possibility that an 8-8 on a 9-7 team or two might just find their way into the Wild Card game. What that means for the New York Jets and the Miami Dolphins, both of whom are struggling, is that there is still hope. That said, the loser of this one will probably not have any way back into the playoff picture, which makes this one of the more critical games on the NFL calendar this weekend. The slight edge must go to the Dolphins with the home field advantage, and that is exactly how the bookies see it. Miami will come into this one as a 3.5-point favorite over the Jets.

Why bet on the New York Jets

It has been something of a circus in New York Jets this season, as the team has struggled, and made it clear that they are not pleased with the performances of QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who they paid a ton of money to in the offseason. Fitzpatrick was benched a couple of weeks back, but was immediately called back into action when Geno Smith went down with a knee injury. He seems to have taken the benching personally, and has now led the Jets to back to back wins. It certainly helps that he is getting some help, as the running game has come to life, running for over 300 yards in the last two games. They are going to have a tougher time against a stiff Dolphins run D this weekend.

Why bet on the Miami Dolphins

Oddly enough, the Dolphins turned their season around at the same time the Jets did, and for the same reason. They have won back to back games, and it has been the running game that has taken them to the next level. The Dolphins have pounded the ball on the ground for over 470 yards in the last two games, which has taken a lot of pressure off Ryan Tannehill at QB. It also helps that they have held onto the football in those last 2 games, which is important for a team that doesn’t create a lot of turnovers on defense.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Jets have won their last three meetings against the Dolphins, and both wins last season came in very comfortable fashion. This is a different year, though, and I like Miami to turn the tables here in what should be a low scoring affair.
