Top Expert NHL Picks of the Week – December 18 Edition

Detroit Red Wings (12-13-7) at Philadelphia Flyers (14-11-7)

  • When: Wednesday, Dec 20, 2017, 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Wells Fargo Center-PA, Philadelphia, PA
The Red Wings have struggled over their last 10 games, going just 2-4-4 over the stretch although they hit the new week coming off a 3-1 win over Toronto on Friday. The Red Wings are largely struggling at both ends of the ice as they are ranked just 26th in scoring (2.6 gpg) and 24th in goals allowed (3.2 gpg). The Flyers have gotten on a nice roll recently and hit the new week riding the wave of a six-game winning streak that helped them to improve to 6-2-2 over their last 10 games. Philly got past Dallas 2-1 on Saturday night. While the Flyers are ranked a modest 17th in scoring (2.8 gpg) they are also ranked an encouraging eighth in goals allowed (2.8 gpg). While Detroit got a nice win on Friday night, I think they’re going to find it tough to score a Philly squad that has not allowed more than two goals in each of their last six games. I don’t know what’s happened to the Flyers, but they’ve clearly gotten their act together over their last half-dozen contests – after losing each of their previous 10 games. Score Prediction: Philadelphia Flyers 4 – Detroit  Red Wings 1

Chicago Blackhawks (17-11-5) at Dallas Stars (18-14-2)

  • When: Thursday, Dec 21, 2017, 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: American Airlines Center – TX, Dallas, TX
Chicago has played a lot better in winning five straight entering the new week after losing their previous five. More importantly, Chicago ranks an encouraging 10th in scoring (3.1 gpg) and impressive sixth in goals allowed (2.6 gpg). Goalie Corey Crawford is playing lights out right now and the Blackhawks have scored at least three goals in each of their last five. The Blackhawks shouldn't be on your NHL Betting list for this week.   Dallas is ranked a modest 16th in scoring (2.9 gpg)and nearly identical 15th in goals allowed (2.9 gpg). The Stars have lost two straight and five of their last seven while getting held to two goals or less in four of those losses. Ironically, the Stars are a robust 10-4 on their home-ice, so, I’m thinking an upset is the rights call in this one! Score Prediction: Dallas Stars 3 – Chicago Blackhawks 2

Washington Capitals (21-12-1) at Las Vegas Golden Knights (21-9-2)

  • When: Saturday, December 23 at 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, NV
  • TV: AT&T SN
The Washington capitols have won eight of their last 10 and hit the new week riding a three-game winning streak that includes a thrilling 3-2 win over Anaheim on Saturday. Led by the ageless Alexander Ovechkin (37 points) the Caps are ranked ninth in scoring (3.1 gpg) and a respectable 16th in goals allowed (2.9 gpg). However, Vegas can also score at will as they rank third in offense (3.4 gpg), even if they are ranked a modest 19th in defense (3.0 gpg). For this matchup. I’m going to urge you to back the impressive expansion Knights to narrowly get past Ovechkin and company in a thriller, if only because they Knights have been outstanding in going a near-perfect 13-2-1 at home this season! Score Prediction: Washington Capitals 2 – Las Vegas Golden Knights 3
