Soccer Betting Picks of the Week – August 27 Edition

Written by on August 27, 2018

It’s the start of a new week in the world of soccer betting as we come off another thrilling weekend, where we saw one of the biggest surprises of the early part of the season. Through the opening two weeks of the EPL, Manchester City looked as though they were once again going to be a dominant force, but their progress was halted over the weekend by newly promoted Wolves, who were able to steal a point for the champions. Juventus won again, although, Cristiano Ronaldo failed to score for the second straight week, while the MLS delivered some classics through rivalry week. That’s all in the past now, though, so let’s look ahead to this week’s action.

Soccer Betting Picks of the Week – August 27th Edition

Manchester United Vs Tottenham – Monday, August 27th

All is not well at Old Trafford, with Jose Mourinho already feeling the glare of the spotlight after seeing his team lose to Brighton last week. There is talk that Zinedane Zidane is waiting on the sidelines for a chance to swoop in and take the job, while reports are once again surfacing that Paul Pogba wants out, with a move to Barcelona his desired destination. All of that will be cast aside today, as United look to get back to winning ways against Tottenham. While I certainly expect United to be better than they were last week, I’m still not so sure that they can get the win against a very good Tottenham side. I’m all over the draw here.

Soccer Betting Prediction: Manchester United 1 Tottenham 1

Portland Timbers Vs Toronto FC – Wednesday, August 29th

It was not a great weekend for the Timbers, as a loss to Seattle saw them fall below the playoff line in the MLS Western Conference. It was the 4th straight loss for Portland, who have fallen apart somewhat after going on a 15-game unbeaten streak. This is a team that is usually money at home, so seeing them lose back to back games in their own building is something of a surprise. Things don’t get much easier on Wednesday, as it’s the defending MLS Cup Champions coming to town. Toronto are starting to improve after a brutal start to the season but are still 6 points back of the final playoff spot in the East.

Soccer Betting Prediction: Portland Timbers 2 Toronto FC 1

Leicester Vs Liverpool – Saturday, September 1st

Is Liverpool a safe soccer betting pick this week?

It’s still very early in the EPL season, but it is already clear that Liverpool look like the team most likely to challenge Manchester City for the top spot. The other big guns have all had some teething troubles in the early going, and while Chelsea have achieved maximum points, they have not looked entirely convincing doing so. The goal for Liverpool heading into this season was to tighten up at the back, which they have done nicely, giving up 0 goals through their opening 3 games of the season. This weekend, they will face a Leicester team coming off a dramatic last-minute winner over the weekend. A tricky road trip for The Reds, but one they pass.

Soccer Betting Prediction: Leicester 0 Liverpool 2

Parma Vs Juventus – Saturday, September 1st

We are all still very patiently waiting for the moment when Cristiano Ronaldo finally opens his goal scoring account with Juventus. Two games in and Juve are still unbeaten, scoring 5 goals in the process, but CR7 has yet to get among the goals. He does have a couple of assists, but he was brought in to add more scoring punch, and potentially deliver a Champions League crown. This week, Juventus are on the road to face a Parma team that has only 1 point out of a possible 6. This may well be the weekend when Ronaldo finally gets off the mark.

Soccer Betting Prediction: Parma 0 Juventus 3
