Day 6 Recap of the Third Round

Mannarino overcame a 2-1 set deficit to beat Shelton 7-6 4 , 1-6, 6-7 2 , 6-3, 6-4. The veteran French player has now played in three consecutive five-set matches. Alex de Minaur, hoping to become the first Australian male player to win in Melbourne since 1976, is also into the Round of 16 with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 win over Flavio Cobolli. Novak Djokovic and Andrey Rublev also advanced.

Barbora Krejcikova beat Aussie Storm Hunter 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the women’s draw, setting up a Round of 16 matchup against 16-year-old Russian sensation Mirra Andreeva. Amanda Anisimova, Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff, and Viktoria Azarenka also moved on to the next round.

Round of 16 Betting Previews

Jannik Sinner vs. Karen Khachanov

AO Lines: Jannik Sinner -1100; Karen Khachanov +500

Jannik Sinner is poised for a breakout season in 2024 and his performance through his first three matches suggests he’s a favorite to win the Australian Open. He has yet to lose a set and absolutely dominated 26th seed Sebastian Baez, beating him 6-0, 6-1, 6-3. Karen Khachanov has gone to four sets in each of his matches and is coming off of a 6-4, 7-6 4 , 4-6, 7-6 5 win over Tomas Machac. Sinner is 2-1 in three career matches against Khachanov and should have no trouble improving to 3-1.

Taylor Fritz vs. Stefanos Tsitsipas

AO Lines: Taylor Fritz +140; Stefanos Tsitsipas -200

After surviving a five-set scare against Facundo Diaz Acosta, Fritz has seemingly found his game in Melbourne. He has responded with three- and four-set victories in the second and third round and has dropped just 18 games in those two matches. Stefanos Ttistipas, meanwhile, is coming off of a dominant 6-3, 6-0, 6-4 win over Lucas Van Assche. He is 3-1 in four career matches against Fritz, although the American won the most recent meeting between the two players in 2023. Tsitsipas beat Fritz in the 2022 Australian Open in five sets, so expect Fritz to have added motivation here. He’s a good value pick at +140.

Amanda Anisimova vs. Aryna Sabalenka

AO Lines: Amanda Anisimova +390; Aryna Sabalenka -800

Speaking of major upset potential, Amanda Anisimova should be a popular betting pick against Sabalenka, the defending Australian Open champion. She is 4-1 in five career matches against Sabalenka, beating her three times on clay and once on hard courts, coincidentally at the 2019 Australian Open. Anisimova is also playing great tennis after returning from a six-month break. She hasn’t dropped a set in three matches and already has a win over a top-15 opponent, beating Liudmila Samsonova in the first round.

Ashleigh Barty vs Alison Riske

Australian Open Odds: Riske +285 / Barty -454

1-seed Ashleigh Barty is on a mission. She becomes the favorite to win on the women’s side now that both Serena and Naomi are out. On Saturday, she battles tough Alison Riske. Although Riske beat Julia Georges, it wasn’t easy. Barty should roll to another 2-set victory.

Tennis Betting Pick: Ashleigh Barty

Maria Sakkari vs Petra Kvitova

Australian Open Odds: Kvitova -303 / Sakkari +204

In 3 matches, Maria Sakkari has done nothing wrong. She bested Madison Keys 6-4, 6-4 in the third round. Petra Kvitova hasn’t lost a set. But, Sakkari offers excellent odds. She’s got a better shot to upset Petra than the odds indicate.

Tennis Betting Pick: Maria Sakkari

Cori Gauff vs Sofia Kenin

Australian Open Odds: Kenin -172 / Gauff +124

Wow. Cori Gauff means business this tournament! The 15-year-old phenom didn’t just beat Naomi Osaka. She dominated Noami 6-3, 6-4. Can she provide another upset win in Round 4? Why not? Sofia Kenin struggled to get past Shua Zheng 7-5, 7-6 (9-7). Go with Gauff.

Tennis Betting Pick: Cori Gauff

Ons Jabeur vs Qiang Wang

Australian Open Odds: Wang -217 / Jabeur +152

Ons Jabeur knocked out Johanna Konta in Round 1. In Round 3, she knocked out Caroline Wozniacki. Although Ons has a shot, Qiang Wang beat Serena in the third round. Wang is on top of her game.

Tennis Betting Pick: Qiang Wang

Tennys Sandgren vs Fabio Fognini

Australian Open Odds: Fognini -161 / Sandgren +114

Fabio Fognini has played 18 sets in 3 matches. Can he keep it up against Tennys Sandgren on Saturday? Fatigue sets in for every player. It should set in for Fabio on Saturday. Back Sandgren at the better odds.

Tennis Betting Pick: Tennys Sandgren

Milos Raonic vs Marin Cilic

Australian Open Odds: Cilic +136 / Raonic -192

Saturday’s top matchup on the men’s side has Milos Raonic taking on Marin Cilic. Both tennis players have impressed at the 2020 Australian Open. In Round 3, Raonic upset favored Stefanos Tsitsipas 7-5, 6-4, 7-6 (7-2). Cilic beat Robert Bautista-Agut 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-0, 5-7, 6-3. In the head-to-head, Marin has 2 wins and Cilic has 1. Both should show their best on Saturday. Cilic offers above even money odds. That makes Marin the play.

Tennis Betting Pick: Marin Cilic

Diego Schwartzman vs Novak Djokovic

Australian Open Odds: Djokovic -4999 / Schwartzman +886

Djokovic is in great form. The 2019 Australian Open champ is looking for his eighth Aussie title since 2008. Even though he should dominate Schwartzman on Saturday, Diego took a set at the 2019 Rome Semifinals. Not only that but Schwartzman beat Dusan Lajovic, a tough player, in Round 3. He could make things interesting. There’s nothing wrong with backing a huge dog with a few bucks. Djokovic is not unbeatable. So, why not?

Tennis Betting Pick: Diego Schwartzman
