2022 Wimbledon Betting Update: Djokovic v Norrie, Rybakina v Halep Must Wager Semifinals Matches

With the conclusion of Wednesday’s matches, we’re now into the semifinals at Wimbledon. Some of the big names and usual suspects have advanced (Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Simona Halep), while there are five first-time Grand Slam semifinalists: Nick Kyrgios, Cameron Norrie, Ons Jabeur, Elena Rybakina, and Tatjana Maria. That said, it’s time to have a look at our Wimbledon Betting update so you can continue with your bets.

Must Bet Matches

  • Novak Djokovic (-1400) vs Cameron Norrie (+800)

It’s incredibly tough to bet against Djokovic at a Grand Slam and even tougher to do so at Wimbledon. The world No. 3 and 20-time Grand Slam winner has won each of the last three Wimbledons and has been the betting favorite from the start of this year’s tournament. However, she’s shown kinks in the armor this time around.

Djokovic looked a little shaky in his first-round match and dropped the first two sets in his quarter-final match against Jannik Sinner. While he responded by winning the next three sets, it’s clear he’s not quite as dominant as he has been in past years.

Norrie, in his first Grand Slam semifinal, has a huge obstacle in front of him but will have the support of the crowd at Center Court. He has only played Djokovic once (a loss at the 2021 Nitto ATP Finals) but is having a great season, especially on grass. Take it with a grain of salt, but there’s an upset brewing here.

  • Elena Rybakina (+240) vs Simona Halep (-300)

Elena Rybakina, a native of Russia, is competing under the Kazakhstan banner because of Wimbledon’s ban on Russian and Belarus players. It was a great decision for the strong server as she has excelled through her first five matches at Wimbledon.

Halep, however, has been especially dominant. She hasn’t dropped a single set through five matches and hasn’t even gone to a tiebreak. The 2019 Wimbledon winner is the betting favorite to win the tournament and should get through her semifinal matchup.

Favorites

Halep (+100) only became the betting favorite following her quarter-final victory. Iga Swiatek held that distinction before the tournament began, and Ons Jabeur was the consensus betting winner a few days ago.

Djokovic (-400) opened the tournament at -125 and has become even more of a favorite as the tournament has progressed. Interestingly, Nick Kyrgios is now just as favored as Rafael Nadal, perhaps partly due to the latter suffering an abdominal injury in his quarter-final match.

Upsets

The quarter-finals in both the men’s and women’s draws went about as expected. Kyrgios’ victory over Cristian Garin wasn’t that surprising, but that he did it in three sets was. American Taylor Fritz almost knocked off Nadal but fell in a five-set tiebreaker.

Injuries

As mentioned, Nadal’s health status is worth monitoring ahead of Friday’s semifinal. He has two days to recover from his abdominal injury but said in his post-match interview that he’d first have to make sure he can even participate, let alone defeat Kyrgios.
