Top WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – July 22nd Edition

Written by on July 22, 2019

With the annual WNBA All-Star game taking place on Saturday, July 27, live from the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Paradise, Nevada and the league’s shortened schedule concluding on Wednesday night, now is a perfect time to look at the most value-packed matchups on this week’s docket.

Three exciting pairing are all in the spotlight, so let’s get to my expert analysis and WNBA betting predictions.

Top WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – July 22nd Edition

Seattle Storm (12-8) at Las Vegas Aces (12-6)

  • When: Tuesday, July 23 at 10:00 PM ET
  • TV: ESPN2

Defending league champion Seattle has won four straight including their thrilling 69-66 win over Las Vegas on Friday night. All-star forward Natasha Howard scored a game-high 21 points while adding 10 rebounds to lead the way to victory. Sami Whitcomb added 14 points and Crystal Langhorne contributed 11 points in the win.

Las Vegas moved to 6-1 over their last seven games by getting past Minnesota 79-74 in a hard-fought battle on Sunday as Liz Cambage scored a game-high 22 points and 13 rebounds and Kyla McBride added 20 points.

Prediction

I know the Seattle Storm are the defending champions and that they’ve been on a nice roll coming into their final regular season game before the all-star break, but Las Vegas is out to make a statement and they’ve got the talent to do just that. I’m going with the Aces to get it done in a contest that looks like it has the potential to be the best game of the entire 2019 regular season so far.

WNBA Betting Pick: Las Vegas 76 Seattle 73

New York Liberty (8-10) at Connecticut Sun (12-6)

  • When: Wednesday, July 24 at 11:30 AM ET

New York snapped a three-game losing streak by getting past Los Angeles 83-78 on Saturday as rookie Marine Johannes scored a team-high 17 points while draining all six of her field goal attempts, including four three-pointers, in her third game with New York. Connecticut has won three straight including their emphatic 98-69 blowout of Atlanta on Friday night. Bria Holmes scored a team-high 17 points while Jasmine Thomas added 14 points and Jonquel Jones, 12 points. The Eastern Conference-leading Sun shot a red-hot 11 of 26 from 3-point distance to record their 15th win in their last 16 home games.

Prediction

If you just skipped the part that said Connecticut has won 15 of their last 16 home games, then you should know that’s exactly why I’m going with the Sun to hold down the fort and hit the all-star break feeling good about their second half chances.

While these two teams average almost the same amount of points per game offensively, new York has been mostly awful at the defensive end of the floor in allowing a league-worst 83.2 points per contest. Keep it simple WNBA betting buffs…the Sun hold it down at home to get the win.

WNBA Betting Pick: Connecticut 82 New York 76

Washington Mystics (11-6) at Minnesota Lynx (10-9)

  • When: Wednesday, July 24 at 1:00 PM ET
  • TV: NBATV

Washington has won two straight since superstar forward Elena Delle Donne returned to action from a facial injury. Delle Donne scored a team-high 28 points for the second straight game while shooting a blistering 10-of-13 from the field  to help the Mystics rout the Atlanta Dream 93-65 on Sunday. Aerial Powers added 17 points and Tianna Hawkins had 13 for the Mystics in the win. Minnesota has dropped two straight and three of four including their 79-74 road loss against Las Vegas on Sunday. Odyssey Sims scored a team-high 19 points while Sylvia Fowles and Stephanie Talbot both added 14 points in the narrow loss.

Prediction

For this intriguing matchup, I’m going with Elena Delle Donne to lead Washington to victory. Minnesota has a a solid 6-4 record on their home floor this season and their fare share of gifted players, starting with Odyssey Sims. However, Washington has an impressive 6-3 road mark this season and they lead the league in scoring (85.9 ppg) and scoring differential (+9.1). Not only that, but Elena Delle Donne has been phenomenal in dropping 28 points in two games since she returned and I believe she’ll be the best player on the floor in this one!

WNBA Betting Pick: Washington 82 Minnesota 7
