Top WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – August 12th

Written by on August 12, 2019

The Las Vegas Aces, red-hot Washington Mystics and Phoenix Mercury will all be looking to pick up important home wins this week in a trio of WNBA matchups that are all offering their own distinct betting value for very different reasons. If you love women’s basketball and you’re looking for some value-packed expert WNBA betting picks for the coming week, then let’s find out if all three teams can take care of business in their respective home matchups.

Top WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – August 12th

Atlanta Dream (5-19) at Las Vegas Aces (16-9)

  • When: Tuesday, August 13, 2019 at 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Mandalay Bay Event Center, Las Vegas, NV

Atlanta has lost four straight since the all-star break and a whopping nine straight overall, including their hard-fought 87-82 road loss at Indiana on Saturday. The reeling Dream are next to last in scoring (70.0 ppg) and own the league’s worst scoring differential mark by allowing 78.8 points per game defensively.

Las Vegas enters this matchup having split their last four games while picking up a confidence-boosting 89-81 win over Connecticut on Sunday that saw all-star forward Liz Cambage score a game-high 21 points while pulling down a dozen rebounds. The Aces are third in scoring (80.8 ppg) and allow 76.0 points per game defensively.

Prediction

The last time these two teams met, Las Vegas recorded an emphatic 92-69 smackdown road win over the Dream that saw six Aces players reach double figures in scoring and Vegas up 24 at the half. With the Dream absolutely reeling and the Aces looking to improve their chances of getting a favorable seed come playoff time, you’d best believe the outcome in this one is  a lock.

WNBA Betting Pick: Las Vegas 85 Atlanta 71

Seattle Storm (14-11) at Washington Mystics (17-7)

  • When: Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 8:00 PM ET
  • Where: Entertainment and Sports Arena, Washington, D.C.

The defending champion Storm have won two straight following a three-game losing streak. Seattle dominated New York in Sunday 84-69 behind Alysha Clark’s team-high 21 points. Seattle is averaging 75.2 points per game while allowing 74.0 points per game defensively.

League-leading Washington has won three straight and eight of their last nine games overall including their emphatic 101-78 smackdown of Minnesota on Sunday. Washington has split two regular season meetings against Seattle, but they handed the Storm a statement-making 99-79 loss at home on Aug. 2 that leads me to believe they are near locks in this mid-week matchup. The Mystics lead the league in scoring (87.9 ppg) and have the WNBA;s best scoring differential mark despite allowing what looks like a generous 78.2 points per contest defensively.

Prediction

The Storm have been beset by injuries to reigning superstar MVP Breanna Stewart and veteran floor leader Sue Bird while Washington all-star forward Elena Delle Donne has scored 20 points or more in five of her last six games while putting up 28 points or more four times in her last nine contests. Washington continues their red-hot roll to get the convincing win!

WNBA Betting Pick: Washington 87 Seattle 76

Connecticut Sun (16-8) at Phoenix Mercury (11-12)

  • When: Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at 10:00 PM ET
  • Where: Talking Stick Resort Arena, Phoenix, AZ
  • TV: ESPN2

After winning their previous seven games, Connecticut has dropped two in a row, including their 89-81 road loss at Las Vegas on Sunday. The Sun, however, sit in second place in the WNBA standings and average 78.6 points per game while allowing 76.0 points per contest defensively.

Phoenix has lost two straight and four of their last five games overall including a hard-fought 80-77 defeat against Dallas on Saturday that saw all-star center Brittney Griner and five other players ejected after a fight broke out midway through the fourth quarter.

Prediction

Despite the fact that Phoenix has a bunch of excellent talent on their roster starting with Brittney Griner, the Mercury haven’t been able to string together any kind of consistency and that’s because they’ve been completely mediocre at both ends of the floor in averaging 75.8 points per game and allowing 75.4 points per contest defensively.

Connecticut has gone an uninspiring 5-7 on the road this season while Phoenix is a solid 7-3 on their home floor. Still though, with some expected suspensions, combined with the fact that Connecticut would love nothing better than to make a big statement in this contest and I’m going with the Sun to get the hard-fought road win.

WNBA Betting Pick: Connecticut 78 Phoenix 75
