Heavyweight Boxing Betting Preview for Bryant Jennings vs Luis Ortiz

Boxing Odds in Favor of Ortiz

Luiz Ortiz is a Cuban who hits hard. He won the interim WBA heavyweight title back in October with a bruising KO of Matias Vidondo at New York City’s Madison Square Garden. His bout against Jennings , an American, is his first defense of that title. It will be part of an HBO Boxing After Dark doubleheader, along with a featherweight bout between Jason Sosa and Nicholas Walters.Ortiz did test positive for nandrolone, an anabolic steroid, after a 2014 victory over Lateef Kayode, but he is still a powerful fighter clean. Ortiz has 20 knockouts and a 23-0 overall record. Jennings is 19-1 but is coming off an embarrassing loss to Wladimir Klitschko back in April. Jennings is still one of the better American heavyweights out there, though, and he will provide Ortiz with a test.Oscar de la Hoya is excited about Ortiz. As he told ESPN.com, “With a mix of speed, power and amateur pedigree that is second-to-none, Luis Ortiz has quickly established himself as a force in the heavyweight division. Luis is so hungry to continue his rise in his division that he has agreed to fight an enormously talented opponent in Bryant Jennings just two months after Luis’ destruction of Matias Vidondo. The fight will be available on pay-per-view. Because of Ortiz’s past association with steroids, both fighters will have to go through random testing through the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association. Most observers agree that Jennings will be a different breed of fighter than what Ortiz has faced in his past, so this will be a true test of his progress.
