Top Boxing Lines: Magsayo Takes on Figeuroa in Saturday’s Top Bout

Two of the best featherweights in boxing throw down on Saturday night when Mark Magsayo takes on Brandon Figeuroa for the WBC Interim Featherweight strap. Figueroa is the chalk to hand Magsayo the second loss of his career. Earlier on the Showtime card, Jarrett Hurd returns to the ring for the first time since 2021.

Check out boxing lines, analysis, and free picks for five of this Saturday’s top matches.

Boxing Events: Magsayo Takes on Figeuroa in Saturday’s Top Bout

Boxing Betting Events: Saturday, March 4

Lewis Ritson +136 vs. Ohara Davies -192

When: Saturday, March 4
Where: Newcastle, Great Britain
Main Card: 2 p.m. ET / 7 p.m. GMT
Record: Lewis Ritson 23-2 (13 KOs) / Ohara Davies 24-2 (17 KOs)

Lewis “Sandman” Ritson has an excellent 23-2 record. Ritson has stopped 13 of his opponents before the final bell, which means he has decent power.

But although Ritson will fight well in this, it shouldn’t be well enough to beat Ohara Davies. 24-2 with 17 technical knockout or knockout wins, Davies has an odd style that gave Josh Taylor fits until Taylor knocked Davies out in the seventh. Ohara’s style should work to perfection against Ritson.

Boxing Pick: Ohara Davies

Eduardo Estela +314 vs. Angel Fierro -526

When: Saturday, March 4
Where: Sinaloa, Mexico – DAZN
Record: Eduardo Estela 14-1 (9 KOs) / Angel Fierro 20-1 (16 KOs)

Angel Fierro should be the chalk, but the odds make Fierro an underlay. Eduardo Estela last loss in 2019. The loss came versus Mauricio Lara. Lara was 16-2 in 2019. In 2023, Lara has a 26-2-1 record and beat up Leigh Wood in February to win the WBA World Featherweight title.

The point is that losing to Lara is no big deal. The underdog in this can get it done.

Jarrett Hurd -476 vs. Jose Armando Resendiz +296

When: Saturday, March 4
Where: Ontario, California – Showtime
Record: Jarrett Hurd 24-2-0 / Jose Armando Resendiz 12-1-0

Does Jarrett Hurd have anything left? It’s not often a boxer loses 2-of-3, sits on the bench for a couple of years, and then comes back his best.

Hurd fell to Julian Williams in 2019, bounced back in 2020 with a win over Francisco Santana, and then lost in 2021 to Luis Arias.

Although there’s no telling the Jarrett Hurd we will get, the favorite has height and reach advantages in this matchup. Jarrett has a 9 inches reach advantage. Going against Hurd is too difficult.

Boxing Pick: Jarrett Hurd

Amilcar Vidal -101 vs. Elijah Lorenzo Garcia -136

When: Saturday, March 4
Where: Ontario, California – Showtime
Record: Amilcar Vidal 16-0-0 / Elijah Lorenzo Garcia 13-0-0

Vidal versus Garcia has the chance to be this weekend’s most thrilling boxing match. Both pugilists are undefeated. Vidal  has a 16-0 record.

Elijah Lorenzo Garcia is 13-0. Vidal has stopped 12 of his opponents before the final bell. Garcia has sent 11 of his opponents home before the end of the fight.

Among the two, Garcia has the edge because all of his fights have happened in the U.S. while Amilcar has a few bouts in Uruguay. But Vidal has gone 10 rounds, which is the round limit for this, while Elijah has never gone past the sixth. Almicar gets the nod.

Boxing Pick: Almicar Vidal

Mark Magsayo +199 vs. Brandon Figueroa -294

WBC Interim Featherweight Title
When:
Saturday, March 4
Where: Ontario, California – Showtime
Record: Mark Magsayo 24-1-0 / Brandon Figueroa 23-1-1

Both fighters in this matchup can bang. Figueroa is 23-1-1 with 18 knockout or technical knockout wins. Magsayo is 24-1 with 16 knockout or technical knockout wins.

But Brandon doesn’t always use his physical advantages. In fact, often, he finds it difficult to use the advantages because he’s a featherweight trapped in a welterweight body.

Sometimes, a boxer should go up in weight class. Magsayo will face an opponent drained from having to lose weight. At the odds, the dog is an overlay.

Boxing Pick: Mark Magsayo
