Boxing: Herring versus Frampton Highlights April 3 Bouts

Saturday, April 3rd Bouts

  • Murodjon Akhmadaliev -800 / Ryosuke Iwasa +450

Bantamweight champion Akhmadaliev offers underlay odds in this. Don’t get us wrong. The champ is a very good boxer. He has 6 knockout victories from 8 fights. But he heads into this match against a more experienced fighter. Iwasa has 27 wins and 3 losses and also possesses physical advantages. Iwasa is 2 inches taller and has a much longer reach. He’s also a southpaw, which could give Akhmadaliev issues. The challenger is worth a look.

Boxing Pick: Ryosuke Iwasa

  • Donnie Nietes -800 / Pablo Carrillo +450

Donnie Nietes has fought 48 times, winning 42, losing a bout, and drawing 5 times. The 5’ 3” Filipino super flyweight does everything right. He has great balance, excellent defense, and doesn’t punch over his front foot. Pablo Carillo is a tough guy. But he’s lost 7-of-33 and heads into this having fought primarily in his native Columbia. Nietes should win.

Boxing Pick: Donnie Nietes

  • Tyrone McKenna +300 / Zhankosh Turarov -400

At first, McKenna’s 21-2-1 record sparkles. Winning 21 boxing matches is a feat. But then, we look at how many opponents McKenna has knocked out, 6. Once again we’re faced with deciding to jump on a soft hitting British boxer or go with the “other” guy.  In this case, the other guy is undefeated with 24 wins and 17 by knockout. Even though McKenna is the much taller fighter, Turarov has more skills. He’s also patient, which means he’ll take his time cutting down his 3-inches taller opponent.

Boxing Pick: Zhankosh Turarov

Heber Rondon Vs Tursynbay Kulakhmet – When will Kulakhmet beat Rondon?

  • Round 1+650
  • Round 2 +500
  • Round 3 +450
  • Round 4 +500
  • Round 5 +650
  • Round 6 +850
  • Round 7 +1200
  • Round 8 +1600
  • Round 9 +2200
  • Round 10 +2800

Rondon is 20-0 with 13 knockouts. So it’s interesting that 2-0 Kulakhmet is such a huge favorite to win this bout. Then again, Rondon has fought primarily in Venezuela, his home nation. In the limited video of Rondon, it appears he’s got bad footwork and not much power. Also, Rondon has fought against some awful boxers, we’re talking 0-21 bad.

Kulakhmet should win this. Because he’s such a massive favorite, -5000 on MyBookie, the best bet is on a round or two. Kulakhmet has power. He should knockout Rondon within four rounds. We like Round 2 and Round 3.

Boxing Pick: Round 2 and round 3

  • Jamel Herring -120 / Carl Frampton +100

The odds in Herring versus Frampton tells us a lot. Jamel, the chalk, is at -120 while the former two time champ is at +100.

Frampton is a good boxer. But the two-time champ has serious disadvantages versus the current title holder. Frampton is 5’ 5” with a 65” reach. Herring is 5’ 10” with a 72” reach. Frampton shouldn’t get close to laying a glove on Herring.

The odds don’t give Herring enough credit. He hasn’t loss since 2017. He uses his jab against much taller fighters. Why wouldn’t he use it against the short Frampton? Herring should be at least a -200 favorite. At -120, Jamel’s an overlay.

Boxing Pick: Jamel Herring
