2016 College Football Schedule Notre Dame Fighting Irish Expert Predictions

Week 1

Texas Longhorns

When: Sunday, Sep. 4 at 7:30 PM ET Where: Darrell K Royal – TX Memorial Stadium, Austin, TX TV: ABC Analysis: The Notre Dame Fighting Irish beat the hell out of the Longhorns last season and while I don’t see another 30-point win this time around, I’m thinking 14 points sounds about right. My Pick: Notre Dame 35 Texas 21

Week 2

Nevada Wolf Pack

Saturday, Sep. 10 at 3:30pm ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: Nevada wasn’t awful in going 706 a year ago, but let’s be honest. The Wolf Pack also aren’t in the class of legitimate title contenders as Notre Dame either.  The Fighting Irish win handily for the second week in a row. My Pick: Notre Dame 31 Nevada 17

Week 3

Michigan State Spartans

Saturday, Sep. 17 at 7:30pm ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: This game figures to be a flat-out thriller, but in the end, I’m going with the Fighting Irish because of their huge edge at quarterback. My Pick: Notre Dame 28 Michigan State 24

Week 4

Duke Blue Devils

Saturday, Sep. 24 at 3:30 PM ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: Duke recorded a solid 8-5 record last season, but the Blue Devils won’t be able to keep up with the Irish at home in this Week 4 affair, mostly because they are overmatched in the coaching and quarterbacking departments. The Irish win. But I suspect a closer-than-expected finish. My Pick: Notre Dame 27 Duke 21

Week 5

Syracuse Orange

Saturday, Oct. 1 at TBA MetLife Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ Analysis: After going 4-8 last season, the Syracuse Orange are a complete shell of the once competitive teams they put on the field. Too bad the Orange can’t call upon program greats like Donovan McNabb and Jim Brown. Oh well,…Notre Dame wins going away! My Pick: Notre Dame 42 Syracuse 17

Week 6

NC State Wolfpack

Saturday, Oct. 8 at TBA Carter-Finley Stadium, Raleigh, NC Analysis: The loss of athletically gifted quarterback Jacoby Brissett means the Wolfpack are starting over, at least at the game’s most important position. Even on the road, Notre Dames gets the win. My Pick: Notre Dame 31 NC State 21

Week 7

Stanford Cardinal

Saturday, Oct. 15 at 7:30pm ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: The Irish will be looking for some payback for their crushing 38-36 road loss at Stanford last season, but I don’t think they’re going to get it, mostly because I don’t think they’re going to be able to stop Christian McCaffery from ‘going off’ in three different phases of the game no less. The Irish lose another heartbreaker to the Cardinal. My Pick: Stanford 31 Notre Dame 28

Week 8

Saturday, Oct. 22 OFF

Week 9

Miami (FL) Hurricanes

Saturday, Oct. 29 at 3:30pm ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: The Hurricanes have a very nice quarterback in Brad Kaaya, but the Irish are the pick to get the narrow home win and Brian Kelly out-coaches counterpart Mark Richt. My Pick: Notre Dame 30 Miami 24

Week 10

Navy Midshipmen

Saturday, Nov. 5 at11:30am ET EverBank Field, Jacksonville, FL TV: CBS Analysis: The Midshipmen had a fantastic 11-win season a year ago, but the loss of elite quarterback Keenan Reynolds will be too much for them to overcome in 2016. Notre Dame wins handily. My Pick: Notre Dame 34 Navy 20

Week 11

Army Black Knights (Shamrock Series)

Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3:30pm ET Alamodome, San Antonio, TX TV: NBC Analysis: The Army West Point Black Knights were a complete mess a year ago in winning just two games. This one should be over with by halftime! My Pick: Notre Dame 49 Navy 17

Week 12

Virginia Tech Hookies

Saturday, Nov. 19 at 3:30pm ET Notre Dame Stadium, South Bend, IN TV: NBC Analysis: I love Virginia Tech’s hiring of Justin Fuente, but the Hokies are going to need a little bit of time to improve under the former Memphis head coach. The Irish win, but it won’t be a cakewalk. My Pick: Notre Dame 35 Virginia Tech 27

Week 13

USC Trojans

Saturday, Nov. 26 at TBD LA Memorial Coliseum, Los Angeles, CA Analysis: The Trojans have as much talent as any team in the country and they could pull off the win as a likely slight home dog in this regular season finale, but I’m going with the Irish as USC breaks in a new starting quarterback. My Pick: Notre Dame 31 USC 24
