Why Bet On Wake Forest’s NCAAF Odds?
The Deacons (5-3) could get bowl eligible with a win here. They come off a 42-32 upset of Louisville. Greg Dortch caught a school-record four touchdown passes and John Wolford threw for five touchdowns and 461 yards. Wake Forest led Louisville with a combined attack of Dortch and Wolford who were nearly unstoppable. Dortch had three of his touchdown catches in the first half while piling up 167 yards receiving. Wolford went 28-for-34 passing becoming the first Demon Deacon quarterback to pass for over 400 yards since 1998. His five touchdown passes tied Riley Skinner who set the program record in 2009. The 625 total yards from Wake Forest was the most since 1968 and only the second time the Deacons have gone over 600 yards. The Demon Deacon defense hounded reigning Heisman winner Lamar Jackson throughout the game. Wake Forest recorded seven sacks which is tied for the second-most in a game in school history and the most since 1997. However, Dortch’s season is now over. He ranks second in the ACC with 722 receiving yards this season and also has excelled in the return game, where he’s worked as both a punt and a kick returner. Overall, he’s racked up 1,290 all-purpose yards this season, the fifth-most in FBS. With Dortch out, Wake Forest will turn to junior Tabari Hines to fill a similar role. Hines has 18 catches for 250 yards and 1 touchdown this season. Wake has one of the better defensive players in the ACC in end Duke Ejiofor, who has been named as one of 18 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award given annually to the nation’s most outstanding defensive player. Ejifor ranks second in the ACC with 6.5 sacks in 2017 and is second in the league with 14 tackles for loss. Nationally, he is fifth in the nation in tackles for loss and 16th in sacks. Ejifor has helped the Demon Deacon defense rank first in the nation in tackles for loss with 9.3 per game. Wake Forest won’t have running back Cade Carney and safety Jessie Bates for this week’s game. The Irish (7-1) handled NC State 35-14 last week and they have now have knocked off top-15 opponents in back-to-back weeks by 20+ points for the first time since 1944. The Notre Dame rushing attack totaled 318 yards against the nation’s sixth-ranked rushing defense. Josh Adams had 202 yards and a TD. Quarterback Brandon Wimbush went 10-for-19 for 104 yards passing, while tight end Durham Smythe led the squad with 52 yards receiving and a touchdown. Adams leads the nation with seven runs of at least 60 yards this season. In addition, he has a run of at least 70 yards in each of the last four games. He also leads the nation with 5.6 yards per carry after contact. He has totaled 736 yards after contact this season, a mark which on its own would rank 31st in the country in rushing yards. Adams was one of just 10 players in the country to reach 1,000 yards before the end of October and Adams has fewer rushes than any of the 10 with 132.
