Taking chalk is always difficult, but there’s betting value in the Pac 12 chalk. SEC chalk Alabama is at -110. Not only is the SEC a much deeper conference than the Pac 12, but Alabama must always get through rival Auburn in the Iron Bowl to succeed. All Washington must do is live up to their expectations in a conference where teams like USC, Stanford, and Oregon are going through major changes. Oregon has a new coach, again, USC lost quarterback Sam Darnold while Stanford will be good like always but doesn’t have an edge over the Huskies at any position. Washington should go undefeated this season until the College Football Playoff. After they whip Auburn in Week 1 as a +3 dog, the odds on the Huskies to win the Pac 12 will drop to under even money. That makes Washington not only the favorite, but also the value play.

Second Pick: Arizona Wildcats +1200

Is Arizona a safe bet to win the 2018 Pac-12 Championship? We can write this about former Arizona coach Rich Rodriguez:  the man could recruit. We can’t take that away from him even though he left AZ under a cloud of disgust after it was revealed that he had an affair. Many questions haven’t been answered about that. Not that Arizona fans care. The Tucson Wildcats picked up a great former SEC coach in Kevin Sumlin. Sumlin’s style, wide-open offense with a decent defense, will play well in the Pac 12. He inherits the fruits of Rich Rod’s recruiting labor. Arizona has the best shot of winning the Pac 12 South and upsetting the Washington Huskies in the Pac 12 Championship.

Best Super Dog Team: Arizona State Sun Devils +2500

We didn’t list our Pac 12 super dog’s odds, but ASU offers +2500 on MyBookie to win the Pac 12. The Sun Devils return a great QB in Manny Wilkins. 4 offensive line starters also return. The O-line mustn’t give up 41 sacks like it did last season. If the experience leads to better play, the offensive line could surprise. The Sun Devils’ defense was horrible. Enter former NFL coach Herm Edwards. Edwards will employ a 3-3-5, which pretty much means ASU will attempt to stop big plays. If the bend but don’t break philosophy works, who knows?
