Penn State At Michigan College Football Expert Predictions

Written by on September 21, 2016

Coming into the 2016 college football season, we all had a very good idea of who the betting odds favorites were, and we have already seen that being at the top is not always the most comfortable place to be. Very few, if any, of the favorites will make it through the season totally unscathed. Even if a couple can escape without taking a loss, there are still sure to be some scares along the way. The Michigan Wolverines are one of the teams that people have their money riding on this year, and it’s fair to say that they got a bit of a wake-up call in Week 3 when they gave up 21 points to Colorado in the opening quarter. They eventually managed to get themselves together and pull away for the win, but they know that a similar performance against one of the better teams on their schedule will result in a loss. This week, the Wolverines are an 18.5-point favorite against the Penn State Nittany Lions.

Why bet on the Penn State Nittany Lions

The Penn State Nittany Lions will head into The Big House with a 2-1 record on the season, but things could have been worse had it not been for a gritty win over Temple in Week 3. Penn State were able to grind out the win in that win, thanks in large part to some solid run defense, holding the Owls to just 38 yards in 28 attempts. That performance was all the more surprising when you consider that they surrendered 341 yards on the ground in a loss to Pittsburgh the week before. If Penn State are to stay close in this one, they are going to have to rely heavily on the arm of QB Trace McSorley, who has been pretty efficient so far this season.

Why bet on the Michigan Wolverines

You can bet that Jim Harbaugh will have read the riot act to his team after their sloppy first quarter performance last week. Playing so poorly in that one may actually be a bit of a blessing in disguise, as you can bet that they will not be taking Penn State lightly heading into this game. Other than last week, the Lions have looked weak against the run, and I expect the Wolverines to come out and start hammering the ball on the ground from the get go. If they can get some joy there, which I believe they will, it will open up the passing game and potentially make the score start to look a little bit ugly.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The last two meetings between these teams has resulted in a win for Michigan in low-scoring games. I think the Wolverines win again, but by a bigger margin this time around, as I expect them to put some points on the board.
