We are just 2 races into the 2021 season in MotoGP, and if the early results are anything to go by, we are in for an exciting year and a tight championship race. This weekend, the racers will be in Portimao for the Grande Premio 888 de Portugal. The lead up to any race is always exciting, but there is an extra little bit of hype around this one, as we are expecting to see MotoGP legend Marc Marquez return to action after a serious injury. It may take him some time to get into the swing of things, but given what he has done in the past, it might not be a bad idea to drop a few bucks on him to win. For now, let’s take a look at the current top 4 in the standings so you can place your bets against their MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2021 Grande Prémio 888 de Portugal

Johann Zarco

During his time with Yamaha back in 2017-18, Zarco looked as though he was on the verge of something big, finishing 6th in the overall standings in each of his first two seasons in MotoGP. He has jumped teams 3 times since then, and of this season is anything to go by, his move to Ducati may be a smart one. Zarco has finished 2nd in both races this season, picking up 40 points and sitting atop the rider standings in the early going. He finished 10th in Portugal last season on the final race day. Given his fast start, might we see a better performance this weekend?

Fabio Quartararo

This will be the 3rd full season in MotoGP for Quartararo, who many believe is destined for big things in this sport. He finished 5th in his first full season before getting off to a blistering start in 2020, winning 3 races and leading in the race for the championship. Quartararo went off the boil in a big way in the final weeks of the season, though, and ended up slipping all the way down to 8th. He looks set to rebound and is coming off a win in Doha last time out. He did not have a good run in Portugal last season, but that race came at a time when his title challenge had long since died.

Maverick Vinales

Check out the top of the MotoGP World standings at any given time and you will almost certainly see a Spaniard or two in the mix. Vinales is the lone Spanish driver in the top 4 at the moment, but things may not stay that way for long, as there are a couple of others sitting just off the pace. Vinales has been the model of consistency, finishing 3rd or 4th overall in 4 of the last 5 seasons. He was 6th in 2020, but he can perhaps be forgiven for that given the circumstances. He won in the opening week, but he finished outside the top 10 in his run at Portugal last season.

Francesco Bagnaia

Bagnaia finished off his time in Moto2 with a bang, winning the championship in 2018. It has not been a smooth start to life in MotoGP, though. This was particularly true last season, when he was forced to retire in 6 of the 11 races that he started. It has been smoother sailing this season. After landing on the podium in the opening weekend, Bagnaia followed that up with a 6th in his last race. A solid start, but can he maintain this level?
