2021 Qatar GP Expert Analysis – MotoGP Betting

Written by on March 25, 2021

We are, in many ways, beginning to see the world of sports return to some level of normalcy. While fans are, for the most part, still not permitted to attend events, we are at least seeing seasons begin on time and full, complete schedules in place. Last season in MotoGP was a strange one, and not just because of the truncated schedule. We saw a wide-open race with the absence of Marc Marquez through injury, with several different riders spending time in the top spot. It was Spanish rider Joan Mir who eventually prevailed and won the title, but can he defend it and get the new season off to a winning start? Let’s take a look at some of the favorites to win the 2021 Qatar GP so you can place your bets against their MotoGP odds.

MotoGP Betting Analysis for the 2021 Qatar GP

Jack Miller

Miller was in the hunt for the title in the early going last season, but he ended up having a run that saw him fail to finish in 3 out of 5 races. With the shortened season, that proved to be too difficult to overcome. On the plus side of things, he did finish the year strong, finishing second in the final 2 races of the season. He has not performed particularly well in Qatar over the years, but he did manage to get a win there in his final year as a ride in the Moto3 ranks. He may be up among the favorites this weekend, but I might be tempted to look elsewhere for the winner.

Fabio Quartararo

While I wouldn’t fully classify what happened last season as a total collapse, you do have to say that things fell apart after a spectacular start to the season in 2020. Quartararo won the opening 2 races of the season last year, but he struggled to maintain that form throughout. He did have one more win before the season was over, although that was only enough to have him land in the #8 spot in the overall standings. His best showing in Qatar at the MotoGP level was 16th.

Joan Mir

Oddly enough, Mir won 2 fewer races that Quartararo last season, yet still ended up as the champion when all was said and done. Mir, though, did a fantastic job of staying consistent, landing on the podium 8 other times outside of his lone win. All the more impressive was the fact that this was just the second full season in MotoGP for Mir, and while he does not have a ton of races under his belt in Qatar, he did win there back in 2017 when he was still in Moto3.

Maverick Vinales

This is another rider who seemed to run out of steam in the second half of last season. Given the nature of 2020, it was a bit of a common theme, as some athletes did better at adjusting to the strange new conditions than others. Vinales certainly started well enough, finishing second in each of the first 2 races of the 2020 season. He did pick up a win later in the season, but he did not do enough to make a serious assault on the leader, finishing 6th overall. He won in Qatar in 2017, so one to watch.
