As we have seen in several different motor sports, the revamped schedule tends to feature drivers situated in the same place for a couple of weeks at a time. That is certainly the case for the racers in MotoGP, as they will see their next 2 races held at the Red Bull Ring in Austria. In light of the global pandemic, it’s certainly a smart move to restrict travel as much as possible. The first of the two races will be run on Sunday and will serve as the 4th race of the MotoGP season. There is still plenty of time for the driver standings to change in the coming weeks, bur for now, let’s focus on this race and the favorites to win it so you can place your bets against their Moto GP odds.

MotoGP 2020 Austria Grand Prix Betting Analysis

After 3 races on the season, it is the Italian who sits atop the driver standings with 59 points. He came out quickly and won the first 2 races of the season, both of which were held in Spain, before finishing 7th in the Czech Republic last weekend. It’s an amazing start to the season for a driver who is competing in just his second full season in MotoGP. Given that he is still new to the game, we don’t have much to go on from his past runs in Austria. When he raced there last season, he finished 3rd, so it would not be a surprise to see him win given how well he has started the year.

Andrea Dovizioso

After the first 3 races of the season, Dovizioso is sitting in 4th in the driver standings with 31 points, so he has some work to do if he hopes to run down Quartararo. After a 3rd place finish in the opening race of the season, he has had diminishing returns, but this may well be an opportunity for him to bounce back in a big way, as this is a venue that he seems to enjoy racing at. Over the past 3 seasons, Dovizioso has won in Austria twice, so I am taking him to win again this weekend.

Pol Esparagaro

It is perhaps a little bit of a surprise to see the Spaniard up among the favorites for this race when you consider that he has never won at the MotoGP level. He started out the season with a 6th and 7th finish in Spain, and he followed that up with a poor race last weekend, where he was forced to retire. He has had little success at this track in MotoGP, failing to finish in each of his last 2 runs, but he did have a win here at the Moto2 level, so perhaps a bit of a dark horse.

Brad Binder

The South African is coming off a huge weekend after winning in the Czech Republic last week, which just happened to be his first victory at the MotoGP level. This is a guy that is familiar with the checkered flag, though, as he finished strong last season in Moto2, winning each of the final 2 races of the season to finish second in the driver standings. It was only a matter of time before he picked up his first win at this level, but can he do it in back to back weeks?
