Written by on February 27, 2018

We are at the point of the NBA season where every game is important for those teams fighting for a playoff spot. That’s especially true for the 76ers and Heat as they square off Tuesday night. Philly holds the East’s No. 7 spot right now and Miami the No. 8. It’s going to be a close one in the NBA betting lines for this matchup. Let’s see who’s got the upper hand.

Season Series

It’s the third of four meetings. On Feb. 2, the Sixers beat the visiting Heat 103-97. Joel Embiid had 17 points and 11 rebounds. Dario Saric had 17 points and 10 rebounds. The game was a rout until the fourth quarter when the Heat outscored the Sixers 37-17. Miami turned a 28-point hole into a four-point game on Wayne Ellington’s 3-pointer with 25 seconds left but couldn’t get closer. Kelly Olynyk led Miami with 19 points. On Feb. 14, the Heat also visited Philly and lost 104-102. Ben Simmons had a triple-double, J.J. Redick hit a crucial 19-foot, off-balanced jumper from the baseline with 19.4 seconds left and short-handed Philadelphia came back from a 24-point second-half deficit. Embiid was out. Dwyane Wade had a chance to win it at the buzzer, but his 3-point attempt rimmed out. James Johnson had 22 points and Goran Dragic added 18 for the Heat. The Heat are 58-57 all-time versus Philadelphia during the regular season and is 36-21 in games played in Miami.

Why Bet on Philadelphia?

The Sixers are likely to be ornery after having their season-high seven-game winning streak snapped in a 109-94 defeat in Washington on Tuesday. A 37-20 third-quarter advantage for Washington was the difference. Joel Embiid finished with 25 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, two steals, one block and five turnovers in 32 minutes. He recorded his 31st double-double of the season and has now scored at least 20 points in seven of his last eight games.  Embiid is now averaging 23.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game, which ranks 13th and sixth in the NBA, respectively. He is one of five NBA players to average 20-10 this season. Ben Simmons had 16 points, eight rebounds (four offensive), eight assists, one steal and one block. Simmons’ 37 games with at least 10 points, five rebounds and five assists are third most in the NBA behind Oklahoma City’s Russell Westbrook (56) and Cleveland’s LeBron James (49) (Basketball-Reference). Since 1963-64, no rookie has had more such games than Simmons in the first 60 games of their career. J.D. Redick had just six points on 2-for-10 shooting. Dario Saric had 13 points, extending Šarić’s career-long double-figure scoring streak to 38 consecutive games. He’s one of 18 NBA players with such a streak of 38 or more games. Over that stretch, he is averaging 16.7 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 32.2 minutes per game. The Sixers recorded 13 steals against the Wizards to mark their 21st game with at least 10 steals this season. Only two teams, Houston (23) and Oklahoma City (22) have more such games. Philadelphia’s 8.3 steals per game ranks seventh in the NBA this season.

Why Bet on Miami?

The Heat snapped a three-game slide with a 115-89 blowout of terrible Memphis on Saturday. The Heat had a single-digit margin in their previous 17 games, three shy of the NBA record, and lost 12 of those. Tyler Johnson scored 23 points to lead six players in double figures. Justise Winslow scored a season-high 17 points with seven rebounds. Winslow had been one of the worst shooters in the league this month before that win, making just 25.0 percent from the field for 5.0 points per game in his previous February games. Josh Richardson scored 15 points with three rebounds, one assist, no turnovers, one 3-pointer and five steals. He became the only player in the NBA with at least five steals on occurrence multiple times within the last year (April 2017). Richardson has recorded a team-leading 86 steals this season while also blocking 56 shots, the second-most on the team. He is just one of three players in the entire NBA to record at least that many steals and blocks this season, joining only All-Stars LeBron James (90 stls, 57 blks) and Andre Drummond (89 stls, 90 blks). Are the Heat a safe bet on Tuesday night? Kelly Olynyk (shoulder) returned to full practice on Monday. When asked about his status for Tuesday’s game vs. the 76ers, coach Erik Spoelstra was non-committal. Olynyk hasn’t played since Feb. 5. Miami has eight players averaging at least 10 points a game this season, the most in the NBA (min. 30 games played). Goran Dragić (17.4), Dion Waiters (14.3), Hassan Whiteside (14.2), Richardson (13.3), Johnson (11.8), Wayne Ellington (11.2), Olynyk (11.0) and James Johnson (10.4). Waiters, though, is done for the season. Miami is 19-6 this season when holding opponents to under 100 points
