Betting on Brooklyn vs Portland NBA Spread

Written by on February 22, 2016

I’ve never been one to buy into lock picks or surefire bets, simply because a bad team can beat a good one on any given night. That said, there are some games that just jump out as potentially being a given. The Brooklyn Nets are one of the worst teams in the league, and now they have to go on the road to face a Portland Trail Blazers team that is probably the hottest in the NBA right now. This game reeks of pro hoops betting mismatch, but it’s worth remembering that Portland were sitting out of the playoff picture not so very long ago. Is their current run a sign that they have finally put it all together, or is it nothing more than a bit of a positive blip on an otherwise unremarkable season? That is what you are going to have to try and figure out before you place your wagers on this game.

Why bet on the Brooklyn Nets

This is the first of a 9-game road trip for the Nets (15-41), and it could also be the first blow to the final nail in their coffin. Brooklyn have only managed 4 wins on the road all season long, so they do not exactly inspire confidence when they hit the road. They couldn’t even manage to pick up a win in their last road outing, which came against a Philadelphia 76ers team that are not really that much better than the Nets. Brooklyn are just 3-7 in their last 10 games, and a mere 6 of their 15 wins this season have come versus teams from the West. Yes, I know I am supposed to be making a case for the Nets here, but I think you can see just how difficult that is. Brooklyn are averaging 96.5 PPG, and are giving up 103.5 PPG.

Why bet on the Portland Trail Blazers

If you had put money on the Portland Trail Blazers (29-27) being the hottest team in basketball heading into the second half of the season, you would be cashing a rather tasty ticket right now. Their 9-1 record in the past 10 games is exactly the same as what the league leading Golden State Warriors have done during that same stretch. This is not to say that Portland is suddenly the team to beat in the West, but it does suggest that they are not a team anyone should be overlooking right now. The Trail Blazers had a comfortable 116-104 win over the Nets in their only other meeting this season, and I think we can expect more of the same here. Portland are averaging 103.3 PPG, and are giving up 102.1 PPG.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Like I said at the start of this piece, I don’t much care for lock picks, but this one comes pretty close to that. A team that is hot versus a team that can’t win on the road usually adds up to a pretty straightforward wager.Brooklyn Nets 97 Portland Trail Blazers 107
