Top NBA Betting Games of the Week (November 28 – December 4)

The college football regular season is in its final week. That unfortunately means no weekday games. So let’s focus on some NBA betting action this last week of November/first of December. Here are three games this week that stand out on the schedule.

Houston Rockets at Utah Jazz, Tuesday

An NBA TV game. These teams couldn’t be more different. The Rockets are an up-tempo, score as fast as possible offensive powerhouse behind James Harden. The Jazz slow it down and win with defense. Utah is just 9-8 overall but that’s misleading. They have the NBA’s second-best defensive rating (98.7) and are anchored by Rudy Gobert, the league’s best rim protector. They have the fifth-best net rating (plus-5.3), which is a better indicator for predicting success. Over the last 10 non-lockout seasons, the 36 teams with a net rating between four and six finished with an average of 53 wins, and only three had fewer than 50. But I don’t like Utah here because it’s the second of a back-to- back and excellent power forward Derrick Favors is out indefinitely with a bone contusion in his left knee. Boris Diaw should continue to start in his absence, but Trey Lyles will be the primary beneficiary. Houston enters on a two-game winning streak and just hung 130 on Portland in a win Sunday. The Rockets also beat the visiting Jazz 111-102 earlier this season. Harden had 31 points and 10 assists, and Clint Capela scored a career-high 20 points. Eric Gordon added 20 points and fellow reserve Nene added a season-high 16. Like Houston here.

LA Lakers at Chicago Bulls, Wednesday

Two teams that have been better than expected this season. The Lakers, however, won’t have D’Angelo Russell. He’s likely out another two weeks after getting a procedure on his sore knee. He is averaging 16.1 points and 4.8 assists this season. It’s also not clear if Julius Randle will play as he has missed the past two with a hip injury. For Chicago, Jimmy Butler has been one of the five best players in the NBA this season. They will be very rested here as the Bulls just completed a six-game Circus Trip at 4-2 with a blowout win in Philadelphia on Friday. The Bulls won at the Lakers on Nov. 20 in the second of a back-to-back, 118-110 on Nov. 20. Butler scored a season-high 40 points and Isaiah Canaan added a season-high 17. Nikola Mirotic had 15 points and 15 rebounds. Chicago out rebounded the Lakers 56-37 — including 16 offensive boards — and constantly outhustled Los Angeles to loose balls. Chicago was without Dwyane Wade, who got the night off. Lou Williams scored a season-high 25 points and Larry Nance Jr. had a career-high 18 for the Lakers. Take the Bulls for the season sweep.

LA Clippers at Cleveland Cavaliers, Thursday

This is the first of the Thursday TNT doubleheader and a potential NBA Finals preview. The Cavs are pretty clearly the best team in the Eastern Conference again and the Clippers are most likely the No. 2 team in the West behind Golden State. The Clippers are the only team in the NBA that ranks in the top-5 in offensive rating (3rd – 111.4) and defensive rating (3rd – 99.2) this season. Cleveland’s LeBron James posted the 45th triple-double of his career during Sunday’s 112-108 win over the 76ers with 26 points, 10 rebounds and 13 assists over 42 minutes. On the season, he is averaging 23.6 points, 8.4 boards, 9.7 assists, 1.1 steals, 0.4 swats, 1.6 triples and 3.6 turnovers per game on 49.8 percent shooting. The Cavs are currently dominating the Eastern Conference with a 13-2 record. Like the Cavs at home on NBA odds.
