NBA Underdogs Profitable For Basketball Bettors

Written by on March 29, 2017

Bettors have different strategies that they use when wagering. Some will stick to playing the favorites, while others will look for value picks, which often means playing the underdog. There are several scenarios when playing the underdog is a good idea, such as when they are going against a better team who have injury issues or who are on a losing streak. There are also situations where the favorite is overvalued because of a lengthy winning streak or a blowout in their previous outing. These are all good indicators of a potential underdog win, but there are certain teams in the NBA betting odds who are consistently the underdog, but who are able to deliver nice profits for the betting public. Let’s look at a few of them.

In Depth Analysis On NBA Underdogs Profitable For Basketball Bettors

Philadelphia 76ers

At just 28-46 on the season, the 76ers are a team that is routinely avoided by those who wager on the NBA, but they have been a very good bet this season, particularly against the spread. Hard as it may seem to believe, Philadelphia 76ers have the best ATS record in the league, going 47-27-0 so far this season. Keep in mind in that all but 2 of those games they were listed as the underdog, and in the2 games where they were the favorite, they failed to cover.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are another team that will not be playing ball beyond the regular season, but who have been a pretty decent bet in certain situations. Dallas have a 21-18 record at home, which isn’t so bad when you consider that they are 11 games under .500 on the season. The numbers get a little better when you look at what the Mavericks do ATS when they are on home court, which is to go 24-15. That may not sound like a great record, but it would have been enough to put you in profit if you had taken them ATS in every home game this season.

Miami Heat

The Heat are closing out the season quite nicely, and have a legitimate shot at making an appearance in the playoffs. It hasn’t been all smooth sailing for Miami, though, and they have been labeled as the underdog for most of their games this season. They seem to like that label, though, as their stats are quite good when they play second fiddle to their opposition. In games where the Miami Heat were listed as the underdog, they managed to go 28-18-0 ATS, more than enough to put you in profit had you played every game.

Detroit Pistons

Yet another team that looks as though they are going to miss out on the playoffs, but a team that has not been a bad bet at all this season. They have struggled badly SU versus the better teams in the league, but are 24-16 versus teams below .500. They have also been a good bet ATS when playing at home, where they are 23-15-0. Again, not staggering numbers, but still a team worth looking at when seeking some value with your plays.
