College Basketball – Best Bets for Friday, January 13

Written by on January 13, 2023

We are not about 2 months away from the start of March Madness, which means that there is still a lot of basketball to be played before we know the teams that will be taking part in the tournament. Of course, there are several who are a lock to be there, but it is still a little too early to be talking about teams on the bubble, but that moment really isn’t that far away. Every loss seems that much bigger at this stage of the season, so every game is big in its own right. We are focusing solely on Friday games for now and have a pair of ATS and O/U picks for you now.

Marist Red Foxes at Canisius Golden Griffins (-4)

Neither one of these teams is lighting things up, with just 11 combined wins between them. On the bright side of things, Canisius is on a bit of a roll, winning each of their last 2 games. Marist won their last outing, too, so perhaps both teams will be a little more confident even though their overall records are poor. Canisius have gone 4-1 ATS over their last 5 games and have the same record against the spread in their last 5 meetings with Marist, so I expect them to keep that run going.

Utah State Aggies at Nevada Wolf Pack (-2)

We are not seeing any of the higher seeded teams play on Friday night, which makes this game arguably the biggest on the schedule. Both teams have 14 wins already this season and both are battling it out for supremacy in the Mountain West, with both hot on the heels of San Diego State at the top. Utah State has covered in 4 of their last 6 meetings with Nevada, but I like the Wolf Pack here. They are 5-0-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall, as well as 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 conference games.

Fairfield Stage at Iona Gaels – OVER 137

In terms of the straight up pick, this looks like a game that the Iona Gaels should win rather comfortably. They are 11-5 on the season, as well as 4-1 in the MAC, which has them in 2nd in the conference standings. What we are concerned with here, though, is the point total, and there are lots of signs pointing to the OVER with this one. Fairfield has seen the OVER hit in 4 of their last 5 games overall, as well as in 5 of their last 6 Friday games. Similarly, the Gaels have seen the OVER hit in 4 of their last 5 Friday outings.

Siena Saints at Niagara Purple Eagles – Over 129

This is another big game in the MAC, with both of these teams very much in the running for the regular season conference crown. The bookies have this one in as being very tight, so we can expect a close game, but will we get one with a lot of scoring? Siena has certainly been trending that way, with 7 of their last 9 games going OVER the point total. Niagara has been trending the other way, except in Friday games, with 4 of their last 5 on that night going OVER.
