Auburn Tigers Team Overview

Bruce Pearl’s club has been just one of many teams across the country that were thought to be one of the upper-echelon clubs in the country that has regressed quickly. The Auburn Tigers have lost four of five, but three of those four losses have come in true road games. In fact, the Tigers have defended their home court incredibly well this season with an 11-1 record straight up at Neville.

While the Tiger’s have won plenty of games on the scoreboard at home, their performance against the spread has been less impressive. Auburn is just 5-7 against the spread at home this season. They are underperforming the number by nearly a point per contest at -0.9 points but do have a double-digit margin of victory number of +11.1 points.

Much of Auburn’s recent struggles can be attributed to the regression of guard K.D. Johnson. The third-year guard is averaging just 8.1 points after averaging over a dozen points last season. His efficiency numbers are down from an already unimpressive career average as well as his counting statistics.

Alabama Crimson Tide Team Overview

To say it in no uncertain terms, the Crimson Tide team is one of the best three teams in the nation. Freshman superstar Brandon Miller has a whole lot of Kevin Durant in his game in the sense of how Durant was a force on the scoreboard and on the glass during his time at Texas. That is not to say Miller is as good as Durant was, but their games are similar.

The nice thing about Alabama Crimson Tide is that it is not just Brandon Miller and a bunch of guys that can’t play. Mark Sears is a heck of a second option averaging nearly 14 points per contest ,while Noah Clowney and Jaden Bradley are having effective, if unheralded, freshman campaigns.

The Tide are currently the second-best team in the SEC against the number overall this season at 14-9-1. They are outperforming the number by over +6.0 points per game and own a margin victory number of +15.0. On the road, they have been a bit less impressive with a 5-3 record ATS but are outperforming the number by +3.6 points per game and a 7.6-point margin of victory number.

The Pick

Given Auburn’s recent struggles and the way that Alabama is scoring at the moment, this could wind up ugly for the home team. Alabama should destroy this anticipated three-point spread, but in a rivalry game, you need to tread carefully.
