NC State isn't playing that well, but don't count them out yet.

Crazy Long Shot March Madness Bets

Written by on February 11, 2016

You know, what may initially look like a crazy long shot bet, can often turn into a crazy, bankroll-boosting win for the ages. I mean, just think, if you bet on Angelique Kerber to pull off the huge upset and beat Serena Williams at the Australian Open you got paid handsomely. If you took the New York Giants to beat Tom Brady and the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 42, you also got paid big and if you took Buster Douglas to beat Mike Tyson (no one did…don’t lie) you probably were able to buy one of those Bengal tigers that Tyson once owned. The bottom line is that, while a crazy long shot wager may look…well…crazy, they can often lead to an insane payday as well. Thanks to this look at my handful of crazy long shot ncaab odds picks for the quickly-approaching March Madness Men’s National Basketball Championship Tournament, you’re going to have a great idea of just which dark horse teams could potentially pull off a historical kind of tournament upset, even if it look like they have no chance at all on the surface of things.

Who Looks Like a Great Long Shot Bet to Take in March Madness

Ohio State 500/1

Sure, Ohio State is just 15-10 right now, but they hung tough against Virginia and Memphis…and hey, they also beat Kentucky so that has to count for something right?

Temple 2000/1

I know, by their own standards, the Temple Owls are mediocre this season (14-8 SU) but I genuinely believe that head coach Fran Dunphy is one of the best coaches in the game today and that alone could account for an upset or two by the Owls f they get into the national tournament.

Washington 500/1

Washington (15-9 SU) has an awful defense that gives up a whopping 80.5 points per game (334th), but hey, they can score the ball with any team in the country as they average a whopping 84.5 points per game to rank seventh in the nation.

Wisconsin 500/1

Sure, Wisconsin (15-9) don’t look like the perennial national title contender they were under beloved former head coach Bo Ryan, but Wisconsin is still elite defensive as they rank 32nd in points allowed (64.8 ppg). Remember, defense wins championships – and the Badgers ‘owe’ Ryan at least one national title if you ask me

Davidson 5000/1

So what, Davidson is in sixth place in the A-10 right now (14-8). The Wildcats are nearly perfect at home (11-1) and they’ve got one of the best players in the country leading their high-scoring offense (80.8 ppg, 28th) in sweet-shooting guard Jack Gibbs (24.5 ppg).

NC State 1000/1

Sure, North Carolina State is mediocre right now (12-12 SU) but if you love the late, great Jim Valvano like I do – and you remember North Carolina State’s 1983 title run like I do (Jeez, I’m old) then you’ve got to be rooting for North Carolina State no matter what year it is.

K-State 5000/1

Sure, Kansas State is just (14-10) while sitting in eighth place in the Big 12, but the Wild cats are also 11-3 at home this season and 2-1 in neutral site affairs, not to mention they just beat No. 3 Oklahoma 80-69 on Saturday.
