Men’s NCAA Basketball Betting Picks & Options for Jan. 14th & 15th Games

Saturday: Kentucky Wildcats vs Tennessee Volunteers (-14)

This is an interesting pick in terms of name value, but you never leave the table when you are on a heater, and both of these teams appear to be on heaters, albeit in opposite directions. Tennessee has arguably the best defense in the nation, and when they are hitting their perimeter shots, there may not be a team in the nation that can defeat them. The Vols have covered three of their last five games and six of their eight games at home this season.

On the other hand, the Wildcats are playing some of their worst basketball under John Calipari while suffering notable injuries. Kentucky was without Jacob Toppin in their shocking loss to South Carolina earlier this week and lost star freshman Cason Wallace to back spasms during that game.

While back spasms are typically not a long-lasting ailment, they can easily be re-aggravated with just one movement, and Wallace will most likely be tender at the very least. The Wildcats also happen to be one of the worst teams in the SEC in true road games ATS at 0-2 and underperforming the number by over 19 points per contest. Coach Cal’s team has not covered a spread since before Thanksgiving, and likely won’t cover against this defensive challenge on the road.

Sunday: South Florida Bulls at East Carolina Pirates (-1)

One of the likely overlooked games of the weekend is easily South Florida traveling to Greenville, NC, to take on the Pirates of East Carolina. From a wagering standpoint, this game is definitely one that should be on your radar.

The Bulls just took it to Houston on the road, ultimately falling to the best team in the nation through Brian Gregory’s team may have opened some eyes. USF is perfect against the spread on the road this season at 4-0 while overperforming the number by a foolish +10.6 points per contest. Despite recent performances against quality teams, USF still lost four consecutive games. There is also a strong likelihood of a letdown following such a draining effort against a high-profile team. Coach Gregory is just 1-3 against East Carolina in Greenville since taking over the program.

When you combine that with the fact that the Pirates are one of the best teams in the American ATS at home with a 6-3 mark on the season, the likely outcome becomes fairly clear. The Pirates should win their first game at home since before Christmas on Sunday.
