MyBookie’s College Basketball Pick of Day: Alabama at Tennessee

Alabama Crimson Tide Team Overview

This Crimson Tide club has been one of the best teams in the nation all season, with their only hiccup coming against a feisty Oklahoma team a couple of weeks ago. Coach Nate Oats’ team is now 22-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 in a tough Southeastern Conference. They have notched thirteen victories in their last fourteen games and have an impressive 8-1 record in true road games on the season.

Overall, the Tide are one of the best teams in the SEC against the spread, with a record of 15-9-1 on the season. They are outperforming the number by a league best +6.3 points per game and own the second-best margin of victory in the league at 14.7 points. They are also impressive on the road ATS this season at 6-3 and a performance number of +3.9 to go along with a margin of victory number of +7.7.

Freshman wing superstar Brandon Miller is possibly hitting a little bit of the freshman wall lately but is still averaging over 15 points per game. His efficiency numbers over his last seven games are a bit shaky, as he is shooting just 33% from deep and 42% overall. His rebounding numbers are also down slightly from his season averages, but not enough to cause much of a concern. This team is still very talented around him to help pick up any slack as he gets his second wind.

Tennessee Volunteers Team Overview

Tennessee Head Coach Rick Barnes has always had a hard time shaking off the stigma that he isn’t a great coach in March, but that seems to be rearing its ugly head even sooner this season. The Volunteers are showing some cracks in the foundation, having lost two consecutive games and three of their last four. Vanderbilt was close enough to hit a triple at the buzzer to defeat the Vols, while DeAndre Gholston beat the buzzer for Missouri to pull out the victory in Knoxville over the weekend.

Despite the losses, the Vols are still one of the best teams in the SEC at home against the spread on the season. At 8-5 ATS, they rank third in the SEC and are outperforming the number by over four points per game. Their margin of victory at Thompson Boling Arena is second-best in the league at 23.7 points.

The Pick

This is a tough game to pick, considering that Tennessee is much better than when they have shown lately, but Alabama is also very good on the road. The best bet in this game should be the under. The Tide have gone under in six of their nine road games this season, while Tennessee has gone under in 60% of their games overall. The under looks very tasty here.
