Why Bet on Denver?

The Broncos (7-4) lost 30-27 in overtime at home to Kansas City on Sunday night, a game Denver never should have lost. Denver coach Gary Kubiak sent his kicker out for a 62-yard try with 1:01 left in OT. But Brandon McManus — who has hit from 70 yards in training camp and was perfect in the playoffs during Denver's Super Bowl 50 surge — came up way short and wide left on what would have been the longest game-winning field goal in NFL history. It gave the Chiefs good field position and they would kick the winning field goal at the end of OT.Trevor Siemian completed 20-of- 34 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns in Week 12 against the Chiefs. Siemian struggled early, leading the Broncos to a field goal and taking three sacks from Justin Houston. He turned it around in the second half, hitting on two deep touchdowns and a red-zone score. Many of Siemian’s big plays came courtesy of Emmanuel Sanders, who finished with seven receptions for 162 yards and a touchdown in arguably his best game of the season. The targets began in the first quarter when Siemian found Sanders for a tough 14 yards, continued through a 64-yard reception down the sideline and were punctuated by a 35-yard touchdown toss.Von Miller had three sacks in the loss. That tied his career high for most sacks in a single game, while the pass rush as a whole recorded a season-best six sacks. Miller now leads the league in sacks with 12.5,marking his fifth season with double-digit sacks. The linebacker is now tied with Ring of Famer Simon  Fletcher for the most double-digit sack seasons in Broncos history.Siemian suffered a foot sprain in the game and hadn’t practiced as of Wednesday. He isn’t sure of his status for Sunday’s game against Jacksonville. On the plus side, at least Siemian said his shoulder, which bothered him earlier this year, is no longer an issue. It would be a surprise if he doesn’t play vs. the Jags.

The Jags (2-9) have lost six straight but usually lose close. That was the case in Week 12, 28-21 in Buffalo. The game was decided with four minutes left, when the Jaguars were unable to convert a fourth-and- 9 at the Buffalo 46. Blake Bortles hit Marquise Lee on a crossing pattern over the middle, but he was limited to a 4-yard gain. The Bills then took over and ran out the clock.Bortles went 13 of 26 for 126 yards and two touchdowns, and also had a career-best 81 yards rushing. Third-year WR Marqise Lee continues to improve by the week, catching touchdown passes in each of his last two games. He has 46 receptions for 581 yards and two touchdowns this season.Running back Chris Ivory, who opened the scoring with a 2-yard run, was sidelined in the first half by a hamstring injury. And then Jacksonville lost receiver Allen Hurns, also with a hamstring injury while diving into the end zone on a 12-yard catch and run. Ivory (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday. T.J. Yeldon (ankle) also sat out practice. Ivory was on his way to a big Week 12 before going down with the hammy issue. In his absence, Yeldon had six carries, while Denard Robinson rushed it 13 times. TE Julius Thomas (back) was not practicing Wednesday. He missed practice all last week and was inactive for Week 12. In Thomas' absence, Ben Koyack got the start and played 40 snaps, catching two passes.While the Jaguars with the loss secured a sixth consecutive losing season, they rank sixth in the NFL in total yards allowed. The Jaguars remain last in the NFL with a minus-15 turnover margin; Sunday was the first time since a Week 4 victory over Indianapolis they did not commit a turnover. The Jaguars’ special teams continue to struggle and have allowed a long punt return to set up a score in each of the last four games.The Jaguars have lost their last five games at EverBank Field with their last victory there coming over the Indianapolis Colts, 51-16, last December. The Broncos won the teams’ most recent meeting, 35-19, in Denver in 2013.
