Stellar Sunday night game this week in the NFL as both Denver and Oakland are 6-2, but FPI gives the Broncos a 50 percent chance of winning the AFC West and the Raiders an 18 percent chance. The Raiders want to keep it close, as they are 5-1 in games decided by eight points or fewer this season, the most such wins in the NFL. This looks to be the most even matchup of the week and shows on NFL odds.

Why Bet on Denver?

The Broncos won last week 27-19 over San Diego. The Broncos hit Philip Rivers 17 times, sacked him four times and intercepted three of his passes, including Bradley Roby’s 49-yard pick-6 that started it all. Rookie Devontae Booker, making his first career start with C.J. Anderson’s undergoing knee surgery three days earlier, also scored from 3 yards out after Darian Stewart’s 25-yard interception return gave Denver the ball at the San Diego 10.

The Broncos have forced an NFL best 16 turnovers and racked up a league-high 26 sacks during the first half of the season. Scoring on Denver hasn’t been easy either, as the Broncos held their opponents to 17 points per game, which ranks fifth overall in the NFL. Broncos linebacker DeMarcus Ware has 136.5 career sacks, the ninth-most all-time. With 1.5 sacks on Sunday at Oakland, Ware (136.5) would pass Hall of Famers John Randle and Richard Dent (137.5) for the eighth-most sacks since 1982.

One negative for the defense last week as it its first 100-yard rushing game to an opposing back since Week 2 of the 2015 season when Melvin Gordon finished with 111 yards on 23 carries. Gordon’s total included a 20-yard run, which was the fourth run of at least 20 yards the Broncos have surrendered this season. Last season, when the Broncos finished No. 1 in total defense, they surrendered five runs of at least 20 yards all season.

Trevor Siemian threw just one interception Sunday against the Chargers, and it was returned for a TD, but the first-year Broncos starter says there could have been more. Siemian threw four other passes that, if not for more than his share of lucky stars or the iffy hands of defensive players, could have been picked. Broncos coach Gary Kubiak alluded to some frustration with Siemian at his Monday press conference but has no plans of making a change. Siemian has thrown for eight touchdowns and four interceptions while posting a passer rating of 87.1.

Center Matt Paradis and cornerbacks Aqib Talib and Kayvon Webster were not on the field as the Broncos practiced this week. Paradis did not practice last week while he dealt with a hip injury, but he played against San Diego and handled every snap, just as he has for every game since the start of the 2015 season. Talib missed last Sunday’s game with a lower-back issue and will be a game-time call. Webster injured his hamstring in the same game and was sidelined for most of it, leaving the work at No. 3 cornerback to Lorenzo Doss.

Why Bet on Oakland?

Raiders QB Derek Carr passed for 513 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions in the Raiders’ 30-24 overtime win at Tampa Bay, becoming the third quarterback in NFL history to pass for at least 500 yards and four touchdowns without an interception in a single game, joining Y.A. Tittle and Ben Roethlisberger. Carr, who set a single-game franchise record with thee yardage, recorded his seventh career game with at least three touchdown passes and zero interceptions, tying Hall of Famer Dan Marino for the most such games by a player in his first three seasons.

Against the Bucs, WRs Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree both went over the 100-yard receiving mark for the first time since Week 2 of 2015. Cooper turned in career highs in both receptions (12) and receiving yards (173) to go along with one touchdown, and Crabtree posted eight receptions for 108 yards. With the game tied in overtime, WR Seth Roberts caught a pass over the middle of the field on a fourth-and- 3, broke two tackles and raced 41 yards for the walkoff touchdown.

With 387 passing yards on Sunday night against Denver, Carr would become the fifth player with 900 passing yards in a two-game span in NFL history. Carr leads the league in pass attempts and has been dialed in, with 17 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Carr has also avoided sacks, having been caught behind the line of scrimmage just nine times, despite all of those pass attempts. The only full-time starter who has been sacked fewer times this season is New England’s Tom Brady (eight times), and Brady missed the first four games of the season while suspended.
