How to Bet Jets at Bills NFL Week 14 Spread & Prediction

Written by on December 4, 2018

It’s two teams playing for nothing but pride and perhaps the state of New York bragging rights on Sunday – even though the Jets play their home games in New Jersey – as the Jets and Bills square off from Buffalo. Will it be an all-rookie matchup at quarterback? Most likely. Buffalo is a short favorite on the NFL Odds

The Jets were creamed 41-0 in Week 10 by Buffalo. Matt Barkley made his first start in nearly two years and looked the best of any of the four quarterbacks the Bills have trotted out this season. The 28-year-old journeyman was 15 of 25 for 232 yards while helping Buffalo snap a four-game losing streak as the Bills put up 451 yards of total offense. Barkley won’t be playing here, though. LeSean McCoy broke out of a season-long slump with 113 yards rushing and a pair of TD runs. Josh McCown was 17 of 34 for 135 yards with two interceptions, and the Jets finished with just 199 total yards.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

The Jets were 26-22 losers at Tennessee on Sunday, their sixth straight loss. They led 16-0 late in the first half. Josh McCown completed 17-of-30 passes for 128 scoreless yards and an interception. The Jets didn’t score an offensive touchdown, instead settling for five Jason Myers field goals and a pick-six from Trumaine Johnson for their points.

It was only the fourth time since 2001 that a team lost a game in which it scored a defensive TD and blocked a punt. It was the fifth straight game in which the offense has scored one or no touchdowns — a franchise record. The players have lost confidence in offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates.

The Jets committed 11 penalties, including three on the Titans’ game-winning drive in the final two minutes. Trumaine Johnson, Jordan Jenkins, and Morris Claiborne committed fouls, three seasoned veterans who lost their poise in the crucible of crunch time.

Coach Todd Bowles declined to say QB Sam Darnold will start against the Bills, but it’s trending in that direction. Bowles indicated Darnold was healthy enough to play against the Titans, but he said it would’ve been difficult for a rookie after a three-week layoff to start a game after only three practices. Bowles called it a timing and rust issue, not a health issue. As long as Darnold continues to progress in practice this week, he should be good to go.

Why Bet on Buffalo?

The Bills were 21-17 losers at Miami on Sunday. Buffalo rookie quarterback Josh Allen threw for 231 yards with two touchdowns and rushed for 135 yards. Allen is the fourth player in league history with at least two touchdown passes and 125+ rushing yards in a single game, joining Hall of Famer Walter Payton (September 18, 1983 at New Orleans), Tobin Rote (November 22, 1951 at Detroit) and Michael Vick (December 19, 2010 at the New York Giants).

Allen’s 234 rushing yards in the past two games were the most by any NFL quarterback since Green Bay’s Rote had 281 in consecutive games in November 1951. Allen is averaging 7.13 rushes per game, the second-highest rate by any quarterback this season behind Cam Newton (7.58). The only quarterbacks who have averaged more carries per game than Allen in a single season since 2001 have been Newton, Tim Tebow, Michael Vick, Robert Griffin III, Josh Freeman, Tyrod Taylor, and Russell Wilson. Allen leads NFL quarterbacks in averaging 48.6 rushing yards this season. Only three quarterbacks since 2001 — Vick, Wilson, and Griffin — have averaged more rushing yards per game in a season.

Jets at Bills is going to be an all AFC East battle.

LeSean McCoy rushed 15 times for 52 yards and caught all four of his targets for 12 yards. McCoy was mostly shut down in the second half before adding a couple catches on Buffalo’s failed final drive. Bills coach Sean McDermott said Monday that starting center Russell Bodine broke his fibula in Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins. McDermott said Bodine underwent surgery Monday and is out for the season. He was replaced by Ryan Groy.

The Bills came into their Week 13 game at Miami among the league leaders in penalties assessed against them. That continued as they had 13 penalties assessed against them in the loss to the Dolphins for a total of 120 yards. Buffalo’s offensive line has had more than their fair share of infractions this season. On Sunday, they were responsible for four of the 13 penalties assessed with two false starts and a pair of holding calls.
