How to Bet Jets vs Jaguars NFL Week 4 Lines

The Jacksonville Jaguars looked like the AFC’s best team in their Week 2 domination of the New England Patriots. Alas, the Jags looked like one of the AFC’s worst teams in their Week 3 home loss to Tennessee. Which Jags show up Sunday as big NFL betting favorites vs. the New York Jets? Good question.

Last Meeting

New York upset Jacksonville in Week 4 last year, 23-20 in overtime in New Jersey. Chandler Catanzaro kicked a 41-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in overtime. Bilal Powell rushed for a career-high 163 yards, including a 75-yard touchdown, and Elijah McGuire had a 69-yard score and finished with 93 yards. McGuire’s out injured these days. The Jets should have won in regulation but blew a 10-point lead in the fourth. Josh McCown finished 22 of 31 for 224 yards with an interception and the Jets outgained the Jaguars 471-311 in total yards, including 256-175 on the ground. McCown won’t see the field for this one unless Sam Darnold gets hurt. Blake Bortles was 15 of 35 for 140 yards with a TD and an interception for the Jags.

Why Bet on NY Jets?

New York is on extra rest after losing 21-17 last Thursday in Cleveland, blowing a 14-0 first-half lead. Sam Darnold completed 15-of-31 passes for 169 yards, zero touchdowns, and two interceptions as the rookie struggled. The Jets were terrified of Darnold making a mistake, calling a horizontal passing offense. Darnold attempted only two passes of 21+ yards; he tried to screen the Browns to death. Darnold has now turned in back-to-back unimpressive performances after his Week 1 throttling of the Lions. Darnold beat himself up after the game, saying his performance was “unacceptable.” Isaiah Crowell rushed 16 times for 34 yards and two touchdowns in the loss, adding two receptions for 17 additional yards. Bilal Powell rushed 14 times for 73 yards. Quincy Enunwa caught 4-of-8 targets for 57 yards. He’s Darnold’s favorite receiver in the early going, leading the offense with 17 receptions and 212 yards. Defensive tackle Leonard Williams, who once looked so promising, was held without a tackle in two of the three games, including the loss in Cleveland. All told, he has six tackles and no sacks, meaning he has only two sacks in his past 22 games. There’s some talk that if the Jets look bad again this week that Coach Todd Bowles could be fired. Like immediately. Bowles signed a two-year extension this offseason, but that was to avoid lame-duck status. There’s chatter the Jets want to move on from Bowles after CEO Christopher Johnson didn’t fully endorse him at a post-Week 1 press conference. New York is one of most penalized teams in the league. After the three games, the Jets have been called for 25 penalties — 20 accepted. After the first three games last season, they had 25 penalties — 20 accepted.

Why Bet on Jacksonville?

The Jaguars basically crapped the bed on Sunday in losing 9-6 at home to Tennessee off that great performance against the Patriots. Blake Bortles went 20-of-33 passing for 158 yards and rushed five times for 27 yards in the loss. After shredding New England for 377 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s win, Bortles got nothing going beyond check-downs vs. the Titans. His throws to the outside were too often off the mark, and the Leonard Fournette-less running game was nearly nonexistent. The Jags had only 232 yards. Only one play longer than 15 yards, and that was a 19-yard completion at the end of the game that involved a lateral after the catch. Only one drive that went longer than 34 yards. The Jaguars’ receivers made numerous one-on-one plays against New England. They had trouble getting open Sunday. Jets vs Jaguars should be an easy victory for the Jaguars. T.J. Yeldon rushed seven times for 44 yards and caught 6-of-7 targets for 46 yards. The Jaguars started Corey Grant, but he managed 10 yards on seven touches and Yeldon showed the hotter hand. It’s not clear if Fournette will return from his hamstring injury this week. It’s looking fairly promising. Jaguars slot CB D.J. Hayden is week to week with a sprained toe. Hayden missed Week 3 and is looking doubtful for Week 4. The Jaguars missed a chance for a two-game lead over Indianapolis and Tennessee in the AFC South. Instead, they’re 2-1 and tied with Tennessee – but they’re in second place because Tennessee holds the head-to-head advantage with a better record in the division. The Jaguars are 14-8 since the start of the 2017 season with three losses to Tennessee.
