Why Bet On NY Jets?

The Jets (3-3) played well enough to upset the Patriots last week but lost 24-17. New York had a chance to tie the game after getting the ball back with 1:53 remaining, but the Patriots’ 32nd-ranked overall defense held on — forcing McCown to throw incomplete on a desperation heave on fourth-and-16 from the Patriots 49, and ending the Jets’ three-game winning streak. The Jets also were on the wrong end of a controversial fourth-quarter call. McCown completed 31-of-47 passes for 354 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions while rushing three times for 21 yards.New York is at .500 despite zero pass rush. While the Jets have overachieved as a team, their defensive line — thought to be the strongest position group — has underachieved. The Jets have used eight defensive linemen, and they’ve combined for 602 chances to rush the quarterback without a single sack. As a team, the Jets have only seven sacks (31st in the NFL), with the production coming from linebackers and defensive backs. Linebacker David Bass leads with two. Another area that needs to be addressed is the run defense, usually the bedrock of playoff-caliber teams. The Jets are allowing 139 yards per game (28th), an unacceptable number.Offensive coordinator John Morton has made it clear he wants his unit to run the ball effectively. In their first meeting, the Jets’ backs combined for 96 yards on 30 carries for an average of 3.2 yards per rush vs. Miami. Powell missed last week’s contest against the Patriots with a calf injury but might return. The Jets are averaging only 18.2 points per game (26th in the league), not having scored more than 23 in a game.

Why Bet On Miami?

The Miami Dolphins (3-2) have followed a two-game skid with back-to-back wins over Tennessee and Atlanta. Last week, Miami trailed the Falcons 17-0 at the half. Cutler, who struggled in his first four games as the Dolphins’ fill-in starter after putting off retirement, completed 19 of 33 for 151 yards, including scoring passes to Landry and Kenny Stills. Ajayi had a big game on the ground, rushing for 130 yards. Miami is 6-0 overall — including 2-0 this season — when Ajayi rushes for more than 100 yards.Ajayi had just 48 rushes for 139 yards (2.89 yards per carry) in the previous three games before facing the Falcons. By contrast, Cutler had 98 pass attempts and Miami’s offense scored 15 total points in that span. Dolphins center Mike Pouncey went out in the second quarter with a possible concussion and didn’t return. He’s in question this week and is the team’s best offensive lineman. Are the Dolphins a safe bet in the NFL lines?Coach Adam Gase said DeVante Parker (ankle) remains day to day. Parker didn’t practice at all last week and missed the Week 6 date with the Falcons. Miami ranks No. 32 in scoring (12.2 Pts/G), total offense (242.8 Yds/G) and passing (155.4 Yds/G). Cutler will encounter a Jets defense that ranks T6 in opposition completion percentage (59.0), No. 8 in opponent passer rating (81.7) and No. 7 in yards per attempt (6.44).The Fins have been stingy on defense, ranking third in scoring (16.8 Pts/G), fourth against the rush (80.4 Yds/G) and fifth in third-down efficiency (34.5%).
