Original NFL Betting: Will Chip Kelly Coach In The NFL Again?

Written by on January 5, 2017

After some early success with the Philadelphia Eagles, things have gone horribly wrong for former Oregon head coach Chip Kelly since he bolted the NCAA for what he thought were the greener pastures of the NFL betting. Now, after flaming out if Philly amidst a ton of ugly rumors, Kelly is out in San Francisco after one season following their nightmare 2016 season that saw the Niners win a pitiful two games. Now after getting fired in two straight years while going 8-23 along the way, the question begs to be asked. Will Chip Kelly ever coach in the NFL again? Thanks to the original odds that I’ve cooked up for Kelly, you could cash in big with the right answer. Let’s examine the possibilities.

Original NFL Betting Odds: Will Chip Kelly Coach In The NFL Again?

Will Chip Kelly Be a Head Coach in the NFL in 2017?

Yes +175 No -250 Analysis: I’m going to get right to the point by saying that Chip Kelly will not coach in the NFL in 2017…not by a longshot. Kelly was fired with one game remaining in the 2015 season after things went horribly awry in Philadelphia amidst ugly allegations of racial discrimination and just an overall lack of knowing how to communicate with his players, particularly his stars. Kelly flamed out immediately in San Francisco this season and won’t be offered a head coaching job in the NFL for quite some time, if ever again, seeing as how he just wasn’t able to translate his success at Oregon to the NFL while clashing with front office personnel in both, Philly and Frisco. The answer here is an unequivocal ‘No’.

Will Chip Kelly be a Head Coach in the NFL in 2018?

Yes +150 No -200 Analysis: I guess it’s possible that Kelly could find redemption somewhere and sucker some other owner into giving him another head coaching job in the NFL in two years, but again, I say it’s not very likely. By the time the 2018 season rolls around I expect Kelly will have fielded several offers to return to the college game he was so successful in. Kelly almost assuredly won’t turn down a high profile job that comes with far more security than he ever got in the NFL. Kelly certainly won’t need to coach anywhere anytime soon if he doesn’t want to. Kelly signed a five-year $32.5 million deal with Philadelphia Eagles in 2013 that pays him approximately $6.5 million a year. The Eagles fired Kelly after three seasons, so he’s owed $6.5 million for the 2017 season. Kelly also struck gold with the 49ers by signing four-year $24 million deal with the Niners that’s worth $6 million annually. Kelly could also sit out and do absolutely nothing in 2018 and 2019 and the Niners would have to pay him $6 million each season. Maybe it’s me, but I’m fairly certain that Chip Kelly is done being a head coach in the NFL. Now, you could potentially cash in because of it.
